    DIY Aquafuge... HELP!

I can take a shot at a your questions: SAW:  Plexiglass (acrylic) can be cut with woodworking tools.  Because you are bonding one cut edge to another flat piece of acrylic, a perfect straight cut is needed.  That is, a table saw, radial arm saw or circular saw with a straight edge is needed. ...

    xenia not opening

Wow, I agree with Diver….looks like a picture frame. Did you place the xenia or did it just find it way to the perimeter on its own.

Old live rock should it be boiled ??

Yea, but boiling the rock only makes sure it’s double dead ???.  If there are any critters in the rock, it could cause for a nitrate/nitrite spike in the tank as it decomposes.  Realize, I know what I’m talking about; I speak with great ignorance; it’s my specialty! I would still boil the rock...

    Candy Cane

What are your water parameters? I have to agree with Birds, my candycane is about halfway down (8”-9” below the water) and under T-5’s. It’s doing just fine. I’d be looking at something else other than just T5’s. I’d be looking at water parameters, how long do you leave the lights on, and if...

Old live rock should it be boiled ??

I would be a little reluctant putting old “live” rock directly into a tank or refugium. What if you still have dead remains trapped in the rock. I would be more inclined to put the rock into it’s own tank for a period of time and measure water parameters on occasion. Once I see it’s not putting...

    Aiptasia Eliminator --- need help!

The commercial product is Joe's Juice for around 8 bucks. However, you can also use concentrated lemon juice to get rid of the little buggers.  Used it a couple times...always has worked with one shot.  Here's a link: http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/msubpestaiptasia/a/aa061903.htm Good luck...

Red Slime = Diatoms = let it run it's course?

You do have corals...zoos and star polyps are corals that have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae that assist in "feeding" them through photosynthesis.  So by providing light, you are providing "food" for the zoos and polpys.  I currently run two 10K's and two actinics for 10 hours a...
