    Quieting Overflow

Back when we had an HOB, we had the same problem. Noisy! Built a durso style shorten stand-pipe that simply friction fitted into the bottom of the overflow…….a simple and inexpensive solution. I’ll go down into the basement, and if I find it, I’ll post a picture.

Stainless Steel plus Saltwater Equals Rust

Update: Correction – My wife was actually cooking something when I did the ramekin baking of the blades and see actually turned the oven up to 450. I didn’t know that until now. Just pulled the wire-hanging group out of the oven, and 350 wasn’t hot enough for Canola oil. I just have hot...

Stainless Steel plus Saltwater Equals Rust

I’m a Reef Gadget user. If you’re not familiar, this is a little piece of plastic that holds a razor blade, and it is glued to your Mag Float. It makes cleaning your glass a snap. I couldn’t live without it. It is actually my second most favorite purchase I’ve made for my tank...

Oh no he didn't, oh yes he did 180 gal build

Three months???? This is Brandon….”oh yes he did!“ He’ll be full blown reef by the end of February. In three months he’ll have a complete frag system set up, being fed by that complete reef tank.

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

Bob, I think you might be right. I just don’t think that post over on RC has found the right bearings for the MP10. These are radial bearings, in an environment of a fair amount of lateral forces. And I think it’s the lateral forces that are causing the problems with these bearings.

Oh no he didn't, oh yes he did 180 gal build

I knew it wouldn't last long.....what was it, about a week or so. So I'm guessing we no longer have a FOWLR. :p

    Paul’s petit réservoir d'eau salée

Dance Brian, have no fear, these are not high powered Cree LED’s or the like. The total wattage for all 18 LED’s is 1.1 watts. Even at that, I’m sure it will still be on the bright side. Dance

    Paul’s petit réservoir d'eau salée

The light I ordered doesn’t have moonlights so I ordered an 18 LED moonlight off ebay for less than 10 bucks. I’m actually curious how this inexpensive thing will work out. I’ll let you know when I get it.

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

    Paul’s petit réservoir d'eau salée

POWER HEAD AND LIGHTS Power Head I’ve added an MP10 to the tank. It was used and needed new bearings. I replaced the bearings (detailed HERE), and am still not happy with the slight amount of noise it’s producing. I’m still scratching my head over this. Lights Finally decided on...

    Paul’s petit réservoir d'eau salée

Austyn, thanks for the offer, but my fat guy is enjoying his vacation in nirvana bliss with all that hair algae. I’m not in any rush for him to finish his job of cleaning up the algae….my guess is two to three weeks. But I do have a concern with you having two. Unless you have a big tank...

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

Thanks for the heads-up John. I actually made a slight boo-boo. The plexiglass I have was sold as ¼ inch. I just measured it, and it’s only 3/16 of an inch thick. So my total thickness of the glass plus this disc is around (0.23 + 0.19) 0.42 inches. I was actually surprised with the...

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

So maybe I was a bit premature in my favorable response to the Boca bearing change on my MP10. I walked into the fish room today and I can now hear this subject Vortech while standing next to the tank. Right after doing the bearing change, I could not hear the pump unless I moved my ear...

    DIY MP10 Bearing Replacement

Vortech’s overpriced powerheads are known for eating bearings on their dryside, usually evident in becoming very loud. If they are still under warrantee, no problem, you get a new dryside replacement. If they are out of warrantee, your choice was to buy a new dryside for mucho bucks……..until...
