Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I moved my 55 almost the same way. I just took about 1/2 the water out, put sliders under it, and slid it. You are only going a small distance so I would just leave the fish in it.
From the research I have done no one has found out how to feed them. I had 4 of them with eggs (until one of my fish because non-invertibrate safe) and wanted to raise mine.
You know I will be there to help if I am in the same state. Just let me know! (You will have to call or email because I don't have as much time to be on the boards as I have in the past)
Getting my two hippos out was one the hardest experiences I have had to do. They can hide anywhere! It took 2 people about 3 hours to get both of them out with a coat hanger (get them to move from between the rocks) and about 5 collection cups.
I have heard people that a DSB mixing that up a lot will cause harm but other than that I have not heard much. I think it really depends on a lot of factors. I moved my tank and pulled the sand first and everything lived just fine but it was only a 6 month old sand bed.
I don't have a hang on the back skimmer but I do have a hang on filter that I use from time to time when I make a mess in the tank. It is mechanical filtration but works great for me.
Cannister filter. They say they last for 3 months but I see the biggest improvements in the first month so I just change them out monthly and it is slowly dying away. I am starving it out.
