Mike is it possible the heater is bad, I've had quite a few problems with the controller and monitor, even sent it back to be checked out and it was recently sent back to me stating there was no problem with the controller. I'm having the same issues once again and decided to check the heater...

I may be able to assist with the noise from the overflow, I had the same problem till I made notches in the pvc above the water line. This allows any caught air to escape, while water continues south.
