If you are going to use a standard 125 gal. tank, the internal overflows do not have to be in the corners, there are several manufacterers that have the overflows placed 1/3 of the way in on either side. Also, again if using a standard 125, your looking at an 18" depth so your side view is not a...
Well, we just found out the addition is not going to be ready till close to September due to the local zoning issues. Now I can't set up me tank for 6-7 months!!
It looks like I will be putting together a small nano instead to feed my cravings. Thinking a 20g.-ish I do not really want to go...
Absolutely amaizing job Merv. You should give yourself a pat on that back for that recovery job on the brain. It looked like another couple of days in prison and it was going to die. It is sad that some people look at coral as just that, coral. They do not see the beauty and fragility that these...
I do not blame you for wanting to get rid of it. Not one bit! Bristle worms give me the major Heebie-Jeebies!! The salt dip will definately work for you though. Inverts have a very low tolarance to high levels of salt and will boogie quickly to get away from it only to meet their demise as they...
If it is not to hard to get the rock out, you could do a salt dip which will make him flee the rock quickly. Submerse the new rock into a bucket filled with saltwater with a specific gravity of 1.035 to 1.040 for one minute. Any invertebrates including mantis shrimp, bristle worms, and crabs...
They wouldnt eat your coral, but you would have to stock your tank with Mullet to feed it. Hay with the amount of water current they would create while swimming, you wouldnt need powerheads!!!
OK!!! Finally saw some good examples of Japanese tanks. One thing I did notice is in the good tanks they used at least one anenome, some had several which I found interesting. I notices the anenomes were mixed in with what looked like leathers and different varieties of Zenias. I never had an...
I couldn't even find a reference to a Japanese Tank online to compare it too. If it's what im thinking, it probably has a zen garden feel to it. Very clean and sanitized looking. I love what you did with it, it actually is very much how I was planning on doing my tank once im up there. Only big...
They will usually find a spot they like for water current and a good footing to bury their trunk. From that spot they will spread out depending on the light. Think of it as a solar panel. The bigger the panel, the more light it can absorb.
Even though you have small pieces of LR, thats not a bad thing. You can really use that to your advantage to create a lot of hiding places for things. You can also drill pieces and use plastic coat hangers as dowels and create nice aquascaping like arches. Can also make a little frame out of PVC...
My advice is to bring a 12 pack over to Concept's house and have him build it. Stop at blockbusters and grab a few chickflicks to keep his better half occupied. ;D
Well, the big negative to a wet/dry is that they are nitrate machines unless you clean the bio-material often. Everyone I know who have switched from wet/dry to a sump/ref have seen big drops in their nitrates.
A sump is basicly a tank under your tank. It uses live rock and live sand as your...
