    Salt dip?

I think its right on topic actually. Was that rock from the group buy? If so, maybe this dip thing is right on the money.

    Salt dip?

"Submerse the new rock into a bucket filled with saltwater with a specific gravity of 1.035 to 1.040 for one minute. Any invertebrates including mantis shrimp, bristle worms, and crabs will quickly evacuate from the rock and into the bucket of water. Remove the live rock from the bucket and...

Last thing I want is pests in a new tank. So once I get the rock, should I put it in a tub for a few weeks or throw...

    sps tank setup need help

Your absolutely right! Its just a rule of thumb/guide line. There are many factors that are involved with lighting. One big one is the depth of the tank. If your tank is really deep, you have to use a higher wattage just because of penetration. My point i was trying to get across is that even...

    Store Location

For the people in the far North. My father went to a home show on Sunday and got information about a store in Pearl River. Anyone have info on this store? Reputation? Availability of livestock?

    Shallow Frag Tanks?

A suggestion... If you can deal with top down approach, get a 8-12" tupperware/rubbermaid tub the size you want and place a rack in it to line up your frags! Put powerheads on both ends on a cheap wavemaker to mix it up a little. Can even pipe it into your main tank filtration system and have...

Im thinging of going up to a 125 lol a whopping 5 gallon difference!!! this way I have a 72x19x24 instead of 48x24x24. I talked to my friend at LFS and in exchange for frags, he is going to keep some of my more prized items and once i get tank established, we will try to overnight ship items...

    Incoming!!

I know Dumont well, had a friend who grew up there.  Good to know there are some people close.  I love frag trading and I personally am a SPS person. Sad thing is im starting over.  If I was able to bring up my current stuff, I could supply a lot of frags, the tank was 7 years old before i...

That is really high priced for Zoas!! I guess its a regional thing cause in Florida, you can't give them away!! Most people go diving and just collect them.

    Hitchhiker coral id

For the love of god, get rid of it! Hard to tell from the pic, but it is probably full grown already, they are rather small. In two weeks time, you will have 80 of them.

    sps tank setup need help

2 - 250 watt MH over a 75 is a lot. Your looking at almost 7 watts per gallon plus your suppliments your looking at almost 9 watts per gallon. You will have wicked growth in your tank. 2 - 150 watt MH will give you 4 watts per gallon plus your suppliments will put you at 6ish, which is roughly...

To zoo or not to zoo... that is the question!

Certain softies release chemicals that SPS/LPS don't like. If you have a hard coral heavy tank, limit your softies. This is why they started thriving better once you moved them! :o Best bet if your going to mix your content a lot is to make sure you have a lot of GPH flowing into your sump/ref/PS.

What are the measurements of your tank? Lets assume its a standard <48x19x21 if i remember right>.  You can actually do some interesting things with your current set up You can do what is called a Pyramid Aquascape or a Slant Aquascape. Ill explain..  no offence to anyone, but I'm going to...

As far northeast in Bergen as you can go, little town called Northvale. North of the GWB on 9W, then have to cut in through Closter and keep going north a bit. I would say about 15 maybe 20 min north of Hackensack. Yea, I think I will be doing meetings once I get settled in. My family and I...

    Could i keep sps?

SPS is very heavy on water quality. Granted there are a few that you can do with sucess, most have been named earlier in the thread. I will say, that even though nests and caps should live in your tank pretty well with your current lights, you wont get the awesome growth that you would with MH...
