I have never seen one do that, the water keeps it cool enough. If it worries you, get a small piece of glass and put it on the bottom of the tub and set the heater on the glass.
Drilling the hole is the best way. I have seen people use backflow valves but that can cause trouble. Worst thing I have seen is a snail getting caught in one and blocking a LOT of water flow.
I have had a 120 for around 9 years and never felt the need to get a bigger one or wish I had a smaller one. For me, it has just the right amount of maintenance to fun ratio ;D Personally, I never clean my back glass, I like the look of the coraline algae on it.
You can run with VHOs, but I...
Hmm, you know I just might. Im moving in two weeks, If i get a chance to go pull some mats, ill post here and we can connect so I can overnight them to ya! Sorry, no 15 day guarentee on this livestock :o(.
I would say roughly $300ish. A 125 is $350ish but has more glass 72x19x24 compared to 48x24x24. If they had to order it, it shouldnt take too long.
You don't have to go with the All-Glass brand, I was more pointing out the dealer list for stores in the area that would most likely have a decent...
Well, if I have the chance to go out on a dive trip, I have a 3 man 3rd lung. If someone has a sea worthy boat, we got it made for people without a dive license!
I wish I could bring up mats of Zoas :o). Unfortunately, im taking 3-4 days to drive up there and by then, all I would have left is...
120 Is a manufactured size. Any place should be able to get them with ease. www.all-glass.com has an areacode browser for dealers if that helps.
I have an All-Glass 120, has two built in back overflows and is rated at 1200 gal. per hour for overflow. Thing I like is each overflow has 2 holes...
I did not read all 16 pages so if im repeating someone, sorry! Easiest way to catch fish is with a slurp gun. I use one regularly in Florida and it is very safe to the fish compared to nets. Basicly it looks like a big syringe with a wide mouth. You swim up behind the fish and pull the plunger...
I myself like the 120 over the 75 or 90, its still 48" but its 24" deep and tall, giving you a lot of room for aquascaping. You do not have to pack it solid right away. Add some more rock and transfer your current stuff over. Then you have plenty of room to grow your tank slowly and have room...
After picking this book up off a friends shelf and thumbing through it, I ordered it on Amazon and just finished reading through it. What a great reference book! It goes from a minor history lesson on aquariums, to full explanation on all the different parts of a good set up, to diagrams of how...
A surge is more of a blanket statement here. Could be anything from the power company pushing too much power, to a powerhead starting to go and giving off a sudden leak of power and suddenly stops. I lost a lot in my tank from a powerhead going bad. Actually saw an arc of electricity go from the...
Can get one at Radio Shack for under $20. Set the meter to the appropriate voltage range you want to read <all meters are different but I would use in the 20-50 range> and stick the black probe as far down in the tank you can and keep the red probe high in the water.
Is your ground in the tank...
I have always been under the instruction, notion, rule of thumb that you want between 5-11 watts per gallon. I would try to reduce your photo period by a few hours and if that doesn't work or is effecting your corals too much, then i would go down to a 70 watt which I think will help prevent...
My .02 here. I think you had a power surge. I am hoping you have your tank grounded, as everyone should. According to one of my reference books, an electric surge of 20 volts running through a fish tank is like the
"difference between the noise of a jumbo jet taking off and the sound of a...
For anything I plan on having stacked, I use acrylic rods/dowels. Drill a hole with a masonry bit through the 2 rocks and slide the rod through. You barely see the rod beong clear and in a few months time its covered with coraline algae. I also see people use clear zip strips to help...
Using a T somewhere after the outlet is actually handy and I will be putting one on my new tank. This extra flow will be going into a refuge on the far end of my sump that overflows into the center of the sump.
Drip pan? DRIP pan! We don't need no stinkin' drip pan! Us southern boys jus' put a half filled bucket o' sand under the hole where the drip pan is suppos' to be. Then when yer bucket gets real greasy, take it out in the yard and light er up! Instant bonfire for the rugrats! Bust out the...
