I doubt I am going to put a skimmer on a 15 gallon. Thinking frequent water changed should be sufficient. If I do use a skimmer, it will be a HOB skimmer modified to hang on the sump. as far as flow, It looks like I will be using a 250 gal/hr pump. Once the return reaches the tank, it will T off...
The 20k MH is a very blue light, you will not need Antinics with it. 10k is mostly white and depending on the brand, has some yellow. You also have a 14k which is a nice bulb that is growing a lot in popularity. It has similiar growth as a 10k <but not as much> and is more on the blue side <but...
Well, got a 15 gallon tank yesterday 24x12x12. Just finished drilling the back for the drain. Went with a 3/4" due to the small size of the tank. I am figuring that I can get between 300-500 gal/hr out of this size fitting. I have the hardware for a 1" but it looked silly, it was so big! Went...
Pressure treated wood use to have arsnic in it to prevent rotting and bug damage, dunno if it still does. I wouldn't want to put that around any livestock. Can't help but think that it would fume up a little. Great for deck posts and fences though.
Is the new rock going to be nice colorful display pieces? If so I would set up the current rock as a base for the new rock. Maybe set it up in two piles on either side of the tank. This will give you a base to make a rather nice arch going from one pile to the other with your new rock.
It sounds like a combo of things to me. First I think you may have stirred up enough sand to spike up your nitrogen. Then by shutting down the filtration, it sat in the tank instead of cycling through the filter diluting it. Added to this, by shutting down the pump, you may have inadvertently...
Sounds to me like they paired up. A lot of fish are hemaphrodites<sp?> so once they "pair up" one will change into a female. Good example of this is with Clown colonies. In the wild, a colony consists of a female, a male, and a few juveniles. The alpha male keeps the juves in check only allowing...
I would keep an eye out for what may have been the cause of the crash. If it was a critter, you might want to think about getting rid of it. I have found that when a critter goes crash, they never go back!
Well, if I take the job, I plan on working on the coral aspect. I think he is missing out on a large part of the business. I am actually going to be trained up to do "management" type stuff for him.
Well the move was a success! Now we are just waiting for the movers to show up. Should be here on Wed. or Thurs. Will be setting up my nano soon while waiting for the addition to be built so the main tank can get started.
Side note, there is a SW store in Pearl River called Beitel's. Guy...
Some Angels do, Bristle Worms will, would also check to see if it is being attacked by another coral. Zenia can get invasive and croud another corals personal bubble.
If your doing a tank change with all new water I wouldn't worry about it. Even with 2 days without skimming I wouldn't worry too much. I would get the skimmer going for a day then do a minor water change, 10-20%.
Good advice!! When ever I got red slime, I used the same product PhosFree. I rinsed it and put it into a nylon bag and dropped it into my sump. Gave it a few days then did a good vaccuming!
