Lots of people run ATOs. I have been running with a tunze since 2004 (on my old 55 gallon). The pump failed once and it was replaced. Other than that the sensors/equipment has been fine. I am using a tunze for my 120 now as well. The main downside is the price point. I've gone away on vacation...
Boomer thanks for your comments as always. This statement above made me fall of the chair laughing. I moved to NJ 3 years ago and was spoiled by Manhattan tap water. Holy cow the water here (Metuchen) is awful.
For the record - mangroves should not be compared with "macros". Mangroves are neat and cool but they should not be considered something that can pull nutrients out at the level of say cheato or caulpera.

only concern i have is if the 2" clown has already started down the path of becoming female. Prob not but I have no idea how to gender-identify clowns. I think the fact that yours has been with you for 9 years with no others makes it hard for her to share. Give it time.
clowns are from the damsel family - he should be just fine. My female true perc jumped out somehow and I put her back in and she looked like a goner. In about 2~3 hrs she was fine. 3 days later she laid eggs. If you are really concerned you could put him in a qt/separate box until he swims...
