    WTB stomapod / mantis shrimp

While acrylic does make the most sense - a glass tank could be used if you take precautions... Like if the sandbed is thick enough and teh grains are small - any mantis-made burrow would collapse and therefore it could not reach the bottom. To create a "safe" burrow, add in a large U shaped...

adding things to make a more natural tank water

most likely amphipods. If they are really big (shrimp size) then you could have a predator like a mantis - but that is highly unlikely. Google up amphipods and compare with what you have. Copepods will look almost like little white dots of snow on your glass...

adding things to make a more natural tank water

The problem with most "bottled" retail plankton is that they tend to clump together and / or are of the wrong size or species for the fauna you want to feed. So here's the 411 on plankton. Best plankton? Well get it from the ocean of course. But then you're also likely chancing getting...

    adding seashells to tank

should be fine - the only possible downside is if the shells act as a coarse substrate - thereby trapping detrius etc. Don't get shells that are artificially colored!

    West Coral Mariculture?? Help

never heard of them - what makes their live sand so much better? Just seems to not cloud the tank as much. When I think "live" sand i'm hoping to get live fauna in there... if I want just bacteria on my sand - I'd just as well get dry sand and let the LR seed it. Just my 2 cents. If you get it...

    Bubbles , Bubbles , and More Bubbles ( why ? )

Is that a Mag Drive? can you run a Mag drive external like that? I didn't think so... ??? also when you say you get water straight from the sink - as in the RODI or as in from your faucet tap water? The brown stuff is likely to just be diatoms but it's only going to get worse if this is...

    Help ID snail

Per Dr. Ron Shimek - if you can get a pic of the operculum, or the "opening" of the snail, there should be a small "pit" like circle in the "lid". If it has it - it's likely to be a collonista.

Where to put corals when introducing new RBTA

thanks bob - yes - you'll want to place a piece of sponge or something to diffuse the intake. Once the anemone settles in and you are providing it adequate light and supplemental food - then you can remove the sponge(s). Think about it - sponges cost like $5 or something - just to protect a...

Where to put corals when introducing new RBTA

It's easier without corals for sure. However the water quality has to be up to par and hopefully the tank is somewhat mature (this applies to stevereef also). One thing to keep in mind is that they can get easily shredded by a powerhead - like your maxijet 1200.

    Ultimate Catch and Release

lol - this seems totally faked. First off - I would not be flying a helicopter directly over a point where hoards of seagulls are flying in/out to eat. Secondly - I have never fished for marlin - but I believe you have to sit in a captains chair a loooooooooong time to wear them down...

Where to put corals when introducing new RBTA

On the flip side of the coin - the bubble-tip anemone Entacmaea quadricolor is probably the one anemone that walks around the least. In addition you can just temporarily place sponges around your powerheads (if you have any) until the anemone settles in. I think Phyl's idea of racking the...
