About two years ago my family and I checked into the Sheraton up in Portland, ME. They neglected to mention they were hosting "PortCon" - some kind of local Comic-Con type event. I recognized inuyasha but i'm sure the other characters were there (bleach, naruto, etc.). You never do see anyone...
I had to read that twice...usually it's the other way around... ;D
I don't have much more to comment than what the others have stated - but I did want go say welcome!
do you live in the capital region still? went to school up there.
anyways - your fish list doesn't have any firefish - but the pic above looks like you have 4. How long have you had them and did you add them all at the same time?
Re: 2 month old Wild...lost? Cat?
Encountered a wild (or maybe lost?) cat in my backyard today.
I think it's wild since when I approached it with my neighbor (who kept saying "here kitty kitty") - the cat just took off...ran into our fence and was frantically clawing around trying to get out...
They do not belong in our tanks. Too fragile with a specialized diet that is almost never reef safe (sponges, corals etc). The only exception to this would be the berghia nudibranch i]Aeolidiella stephanieae[/i] and the lettuce type Tridachia crispata.
I would consider maintenance of...
Green hair algae will pretty much find it's way on any surface - but it will be a lot faster on items that do not already have coralline or other algae growing. That stated, I've seen plenty of people with plenty of coralline have trouble with hair algae later. Hair algae is really just a...
Re: That's a derasa.
Based on the shell scutes, that's a Tridacna derasa. I think the maximum size is like 20 inches. Did you order online or go thru an LFS?
Looks great - (Clam and the tank!).
???
How can a starfish be reefsafe and then eat a fish?
Frankly before adding any further fish you should definitely identify what kind of "starfish" you have. It would stink if you have the dreaded fish-eating Ophiarachna incrassata brittle star.
joe - if it's on the substrate you probably have a Tridacna squamosa or derasa . But maybe you got a maxima. Anyways a squamosa or derasa may grow too big for your tank...just keep that in mind. Good luck!
is it possible while you were on vaca she feed the tank too much? I've had more than one sitter do that... ::) In essence while you were gone there'd be a spike in nutrients giving fuel to the algae. Now that you are back though everything may be held in check. Losing six-line in that size tank...
As with all algae issues - it would be helpful to state the size of the tank, water parameters and livestock if any.
You have two choices in my opinion. Treat the symptom or identify the root cause and act accordingly.
Treating the symptoms means possibly increasing the clean up crew and doing...
