I think...emphasis on *THINK* you are in zone 3.... you may need a calc reactor... I'm in the same boat you are right now (in the sense that I own a kalk reactor but not a calc reactor)...so am curious to see how this thread concludes...

bb would be ideal. sand only if a fish/invert required it...and then i'd discard the sand after use. Obviously a heater is needed and I like using one of those ammonia-alert things...they are like $2 or something but easy to read and see if something is askew.

While it would work and I have read about it done previously - I just don't like the idea of something that is from my fish tank going into a piece of equipment I use for cooking (albeit these days just popcorn). How are you explaining this to the rents?

http://www.cyclop-eeze.com/product_info.php Almost any LFS or online retailer has it. I personally found the frozen sticks a little bit more messy. Whereas the freeze dried stuff just needs to soak a bit in water first and then dose (or use a turkey baster for more direct feeding).
