Stainless Steel plus Saltwater Equals Rust

I will agree that there are many grades of stainless.....but as far as your propeller, you're most likely running a zinc anode. That's were your oxidation is going to happen.....think of it as having a greater potential to oxidize.

    Inherited 90

I’ve had what I term a “rescue” clown for about three plus years. She is missing her dorsal fin. Something the previous owner had must have chewed it off. She originally was paired, but dad jumped shortly after I got the pair. Since then she’s been living in my sump, because she didn’t...

    Zips new frag/qt tank

Now I know nothing about frag tanks, but is 10-15% a week really necessary? There are no fish crapping up the place, so I could think nitrates and the such would remain low. Just curious.

    Super Bowl picks

Someone please wake up Darren….he’s obviously dreaming! I’m not big into football, but still going to a Superbowl Party. You do know it’s not a sport. When the average play lasts nine seconds, and after a few plays these steroid feed Neanderthals need to take a break because they are...

    Oil tank help?

Walk away. As Zippy pointed out, you don’t know what they will find. I consulted in environmental engineering for a couple years, and UST’s were one of the common jobs I’d get. For a clean tank (no spillage), you’re in the 1200 to 1500 price range for the permits and having it pulled. If...

    Drilling a tank ??

Joe, drilling a tank is pretty easy….especially if you have found out it is NOT tempered. Tempered glass cannot be drilled! Go over to the Glass-Holes site and look at the videos they have on drilling a tank. The critical points of drilling glass are: 1.) Bit always in a water bath. 2.)...

Pete, if you copy the picture location (http//blah, blah, blah), and paste it between: You will get the full size picture. Note the second parenthesis has a backslash…/

    Austyn's 125 Gal mixed reef...

It’s disgustingly easy. If you can use a measuring cup and pour water, you’re good to go. I first started making Randy’s two part when I first entered the hobby. I ended up getting a good deal on two, five gallon buckets of B-Ionic, and switched to using that. I was keeping these two...

    Austyn's 125 Gal mixed reef...

You might want to DIY your own two-part. All ingredients are commonly found. ALK = Baking Soda CALC = Dow Flake (hard to find) or Preston Driveway Heat (easy to find in the winter) MAG = Mag Flakes and Epsom Salt HERE’s a good read that tells you the specifics.

Hello NJReefers - Let's do something new this year

I like it! Sunny you will never cease to amaze me……For the good of the club. I hope this strawman you’ve put together is taken under consideration by the board. I’m not even sure if $$ is necessary…just having won this award, I think, is enough incentive.

    Zippys tank

Pete, nice progress from the nano to the big tank. You mentioned tank shots from four months ago….how does it look now? I also amused myself when I saw this picture: I was only reading up to the picture….and then looking at the picture…..and I’m thinking, “What did he have...

Looking for a driver for my led fixture

What I know about electronics would fit on the head of a pin, but I do believe that the two Meanwell drives that I’m aware of, their milliamp output is adjustable….so they would fit your requirements. This could be true with other brands, but again, I only know enough to be dangerous.

68 CREE LED 3 mean well 60-48p driver parallel build

Dave, looks like it’s coming together nicely. Maybe I missed an earlier post, but why are the lights on hinges? It looks like the canopy is high enough to get in and out of the tank without having to move the lights out of the way.

    Kschweers rebuild. 57g rimless

I'm rimless as well. Just have to make sure you mount the GH Overflow down a touch from the top. I'm not home right now, but I can measure this when I get home and let you know how far down mine is.

Starfire glass shouldn't be any different from regular glass. And is the back glass actually Starfire?

    Kschweers rebuild. 57g rimless

Yeah….definitely keep the bit in water. In addition, it’s so much easier getting the bit to drill the exact spot if you use a guide. The Glass-Holes kit I purchased (1500 gph) had this guide….not only to guide the bit, but make sure the two holes were the right distance apart. If you don’t...

    ThatGuys 42 to 75 upgrade

Certainly people have had success with Tao Tronics fixtures (Chinese LEDs). My son had one over his 40B unit he recently broke it down. I currently have that fixture over a JBJ 28 until my new fixture arrives. As Nyte mentions above (and others), the lastest and greatest Chinese LEDs are...
