I am thinking about doing the same for my nem tank with retro t5 + two mars aqua LED. The reason I have not done it is because I think two bulbs retrofit is not strong enough, which seems to be the case for you. But the cost of buying 2 sets of retrofit kits is close to getting a decent used ATI...
There is a thread on R2R that has the triton test result for most salts on the market. For an estabalishing reef most of the salt will work because whatever excess alk and calcium are quickly consumed by the growing corals. However for a new reef that does not have a lot of alk demand yet it is...
I do not have this problem but the defer command should work. What it does is that after the ON condition is met it will delay switching on the outlet for x number of minutes. I use it for my skimmer so it will turn on 3 mins after the return pump is turned on.
Most corals do not require feeding. Feeding fish is enough. At this point of the game watch the nutrient levels and algae growth until the system balance itself. You can get some snails too.
I have two mars aqua (one 6 months old and one new). Feel free to borrow them until you find your replacements. I am thinking about setting up a hybrid with T5's but now they just sit there doing nothing. Maybe winter I will get the time to do it ...
I use a 2700k CFL 15W on my 20g refugium. Works well for me. The growth of the macro algae is limited by nutrient not by lighting. But in the high nutrient system it maybe different.
Like @Mark_C I don't QT either. And I am a sucker for difficult to keep fish too. I have loses but mostly new fish that are added and these are difficult fish to start with. My fish get ick but ick disappears after a while so I know all my existing fish are immune to the parasite. I would say my...
Since you do not have a lot or corals yet If I were you I would take all the rocks out and treat with muriatic acid, much easier and less time consuming. You will have tons of organic material to deal with even if the tech m treatment is successful.
This works better than most. It takes a while for the fish to get use to it, like a week. It lasts a good ten minutes for my tangs and melanarus wrasse to go thru a 2" x 1" piece.
Assuming you're not running an ultra low nutrient system, do you find it to be waste of money? Tried Acropower and ME amino, didn't notice any change. And the nutrient in my tank is fairly low too.
