    Skimmer maintenance ?

Keep this in mind though. When you tear those things down and completely clean them, consider it new again. It will need to "break in" again, usually about a day or so. Once you get it all cleaned and back in service, and it breaks in, I do the following: Keep an eye on that nozzle near the...

    Skimmer maintenance ?

I've been using coralife skimmers for a while. Yup. I'd clean it if you haven't. Also, where you see the red knob that you turn to adjust the water level in the neck, there should be an air outlet there. It can get clogged with salt creep. Make sure that gets cleaned. Pull the pump, and make...

Brandon's WTH was I thinking 125 gallon madness

If you plan to have sand etc in the refugium area in the middle, you don't want "under/over" baffles, you want "over/under" baffles so the sand is trapped in the refugium. Made that mistake with my first sump, and had sand flying...

    TDS and refractometer calibration questions

Ok, so JRwholer (thanks JR!) put me on to a theory regarding my algae issue via a reefkeepers article he read regarding lack of calibration on a TDS meter that was giving false readings. So, I did some water checks, and got some rather quirky numbers. I'm going to try recalibrating my TDS meter...
