Coral Reefs recovering from atomic bomb?

Interesting article, dunno if anyone else saw it: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/04/080415101021.htm

In Living Color Aquariums, Marlton, NJ

Last I knew there was a sign in the window that said closed due to vandalism, and there was a Servpro trailer outside from the clean up company, but that was months ago.

I didn't notice if you mentioned it or not, are your lights on a timer?

    Where to keep my fish?

Make up some new saltwater ahead of time, too. No matter how much you try to keep the existing water, you are going to lose some. Plus, it will serve as a water change because you will be stiring up a bunch of "junk" in the tank. Be careful which rubbermaid totes you get too. They have a...

    Water Storage

I use the brute trashcans for a couple reasons. 1, and most importantly to me, seems to be what most used when I was searching. 2, they don't buckle when completely full of water, even when drilled for a float valve 3, you can get a wheeled base that handles the weight of it full of water 4...

    Scolymia Grown Wild!

Thanks Phyl. I'm going to try making the move today. The GSMs are still only about an inch. The "female" just stopped picking on the "male" and decided to tolerate him, heck, she's even letting him eat now! LOL! But, as that turn occurred, she decided she wanted to cost my clove polyps and...

    Need help identifying this coral

Calcium could be the issue. That's on the low side. In the 30 hex, I'd bring it half way up the tank depending on the lighting that was used at the LFS you got it from, and get that calcium level up. Keep an eye on your PH and alkalinity levels while raising the calcium, tho. It's pretty easy...

    Need help identifying this coral

Looks alot like my unhappy torch coral. Keep it out of direct flow. What kind of lighting are you running? What size tank? That would determine height placement. Are your water parameters in check? Mine is a good indicator that nitrates are getting too high, it has a fit and doesn't want to...

    Scolymia Grown Wild!

I'm trying to nurse one back to health that managed to survive the 90 gallon crash last month. It's opening up more now (back to about 2" across) but it's still a translucent pink with a white center. It was orange with a green center and about 4" across. Will have to try an alternative...

Ultraviolet Sterilizer on Home Reef Aquarium Poll.

I'd say you have to ask yourself only one thing: "Is my tank healthy?" If yes, then scrap the UV. Seems to me you beat the worst of it with the algae bloom that has since cleared up. My personal motto is "as little equipment as possible". (leaves more electricity budget for LIGHTS! LOL! ;) )

    phosphate reactor?

I have a TLF and a Kent Marine. The Kent leaked like a (explative deleted) from day one. I siliconed the tubes into the rubber elbows TWICE, and finally gave up and superglued it. If I had to choose, I'd have bought a second TLF.

    Bio Ball removal

Ok, I want these things GONE! Here's the back story: Purchased a 90 gallon bowfront with a wet/dry system. Took WAY longer to move it than I expected, and I wanted to disturb the system as little as possible. Transported about 70% of the water during the move. The previous owner had WAY too...

    Water Flow

I dunno bout you, but I'm visual! :) Maybe this will give you some idea of what I'm talking about. (Sorry about the quality, threw it off real quick with a digital camera. You'll also see everyone thinking its feeding time! LOL!)

    Water Flow

I have a 75 RR tank similarly set up to yours. I'm using Hydor Koralia 3's, one on the left end towards the front pointed slightly down and to the back, close to the surface (about 2" down), the other is on the right side more in the center of the panel pointed down slightly and slightly towards...

    The economy

Fixed mortgage doesn't mean squat when the township keeps hiking property taxes. My mortgage has gone up over $300 a month in the past 5 years just because of blanket property tax increases, and they still have reassessment in their back pockets!

    Heater size

What brand heater is it? Keep in mind, MOST of the average heaters you buy for your tanks at your local store do not have accurate temperature settings on them. I disregard that completely and use the thermometer in the tank to set the heater. it takes some adjusting, but usually with a decent...

    LED Lighting

Hmm.. Good point on the color temp. Although the yellowish tint would be ugly, would it promote growth? And penetration would be on 15 gallon long tanks... curious... I also found these...
