Yeah, I'm leaning more and more towards that. I can always tear apart the existing fixture and just retro fit the working 150watt and PCs and put that over the 30 gallon. At least it won't go to waste. :)
Hmm.. Now, mogul base or HQI?
Yeah, I was afraid of that. Not sure if the new socket will fit in there or not. Will have to take a look and see. Might not be worth it. Just changing the ballast is 3 screws and 3 wire nuts, no biggie.
I may just go a different route all together. Dunno if I want to slap another $125 into it...
Hi all:
I have an aquaspacelight fixture with 2 150watt hqi and 2 PC actinics.
I got it dirt cheap last year, just had to replace one of the ballasts. Did that, that was a snap. Now it seems the other has bit the dust. I think the thing was getting too hot as apparently it would turn itself on...
Ive found the biggest "trick" to any trigger claimed to be "reef safe" or "reef compatible" is to keep them very well fed. This usually means meaty foods, and feeding a couple times a day. I've found that to be tough to do.
I have a huma trigger temporarily housed in my 90 gallon until the 180...
Here's a link with a little more detail. I can't find the original source from when I made mine, but basically, you need nothing more than the media basket, some superglue, and a cutting tool of your choice (I used a sharp utility knife).
Just cut the 3 pieces of the media basket, glue the...
With mine I bought him at about an inch, he's about 3 inches now and will eventually land in the 180long when I set that up.
But yeah, to Mike's point, definitely make sure you have the appropriate habitat for whatever animal you decide on. I'm not a fan of purchasing an animal just to take...
It may be coincidence, but I had an abundance of them in one of my tanks. Shortly after I added a huma trigger to the tank, I didn't see them that often anymore. About a month after I moved the Huma to a larger tank, I noticed I started seeing them more and more. Now I pluck them out and toss...
Definitely post some pics of that when you do, if you can.
I'm going to be redoing my 90 gallon next month, I may consider that just for something different.
Wow. I never even saw hide nor hair of this issue. That has to be what was causing my calcium and alk issues last fall. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the issue resolved. Bought a new bucket of salt and the issue began to resolve with water changes. I never put two and two together on that...
I just pulled my 90 gallon apart and found 2 rubber bands, a suction cup from a heater, a piece of a veggie clip and the cap from a API test kit test tube under and behind my rocks. My guestimate is that the oldest piece was in there at least a year. No ill effects.
I'm with one fish, tho, if...
Very cool. I actually have a cleaner goby I've caught in the act a few times. Its cool to see stuff like this take place in our closed environments. Would love to see video of that too!
Thanks Blange! I hadn't thought of the sand bed being a contributor, but I can see how it was.
The plan is to yank the current wet/dry filter system out of there and replace it with a 3 chambered sump that will contain a small fuge. I've had success with this in the past, I just didn't want to...
And to add to the strangeness, they are both swimming around like normal now...bizarre...
I'm wondering if I missed a "battle" that may have taken place before I woke up...
Either way, the sail fin will eventually end up in the 180 once I "land" somewhere housewise and can set it up. Had it...
They both came with the tank. As far as I know, they have been together for a little over 3 years now. Normally, I'd agree, but they have been swimming together, feeding together, and generally getting along fine since I got the tank, and reportedly by the previous owner as well.
The odd thing...
Ok, it seems over night the yellow tang in the 90 bow front went insane.
The tang came with the tank, and had taken quite the beating from a former tank mate that the previous owner had just gotten rid of before selling me the tank. The "war damage" is still evident. However, he/she was healing...
I don't run a chiller. I run a 90 gallon bow with a 20 gallon sump, a 75 gallon with a 30 gallon sump, and a 90 standard with a 20 gallon sump. With the central air set to between 75 and 78, I can keep the tank at a pretty steady 80 degrees with no chiller.
Both 90's are running mag 9.5 return...
So, would you rather have a guy that has already made millions and is investing millions in alternative forms of energy (and, admittedly, alternative forms of business self preservation) step up, make waves, and get the ball rolling, or would you rather have congress vacationing in Hawaii on our...
