Are there advantages/disadvantages to HQI versus Single Ended?

    Calling out the lighting experts

I'm going to be building the canopy along with the stand. I took a look at the individual parts, and by the time I put everything together, it is actualy cheaper to just get the retro kit even if I don't use the reflector, and utilize something else to get the light into the tank.

So something like this would be what I am looking for then: http://www.hellolights.com/25methalbalk.html Two, of course, configured like this:

    Calling out the lighting experts

I guess I shoulda included that, huh? Right now I am running a 55gallon that has been up since May. The only thing in there is some mushrooms, a small colony of zoa, some GSP, 2 tomato clowns and a Scopas Tang. I want to be able to keep a variety of coral with the new tank, and I also want to...

    Calling out the lighting experts

Here's the scoop: Debating between a 90 gallon (48x18x24) and a 120 (48x24x24). Either way, I will be building a new stand and probably a hood as well. My thoughts are drifting ever closer to Metal Halide lighting, although I'm not sure I want to deal with the heat issue... At any rate, do...

    AWI RO/DI unit

Yeah, no kidding. I remember stores actually being closed on holidays! That is the rare exception to the rule these days. I know my store only closes twice a year: Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are even open on EASTER! Ack. Patients are for doctors! Oh, wait, wrong patience.... The thing...

    AWI RO/DI unit

So, I got my AWI RO/DI unit today (THANKS RICH! ;D ) and got all excited when I got home. I calmed myself, pulled it all out of the box, layed out all the parts, and decided I would try the TDS meter on straight from the tap water to see what I got. 254 !!! ACK! Ok, time to move into...

    Skimmer recomendations

Will definitely check into those, although I will want an in-sump model. Right now my CSS is technically still a hang on since I have it hanging on the sump under the stand. Amazing enough, since I yanked that air hose off the "silencer" (which by the way, I detect no increased noise from it...

    Skimmer recomendations

Thanks guys. I will check out all of those models. I think I finally got the "junker" (as I have come to un-affectionately call it) working again for now. It was the stupid "air silencer" that apparently was clogged. I just yanked the air hose off of it and wedged it under my stand. POOF! Foam...

    Skimmer recomendations

Ok, I think I've had it with this Coralife skimmer. When I first got it, the pump didn't work. They sent me a new pump. It has been running great for a couple of months, now all of the sudden, the stupid thing isn't generating any foam. The water level adjustment dial on the side just spins...

    Freshwater ? *ducks*

Hey Rich, just thought I'd let you know that I spoke to your friend (how bad am I, I still didn't get her name!) today, and the "smell" is gone. Seems the Aquaclear did the trick. I hate those dang Topfin crappy filters that come in those kits. Man do they suck. Now, if I can just keep Steven...

Anyone take pics of things OTHER than their tanks? :)

She's adorable! Mine is 19 months, so I know the feeling! My father calls her "the most photographed child in the world". Between both sides of the family, she just may be! Here's one I got last year at Easter. (don't mind the shadows, my light rigs SUCK, but they were cheap)

    under the stand pictures

Good, I don't feel so bad now! LOL! I was really starting to think I was doing something terribly wrong with all these perfectly clean setups out there!

    what's the big difference??

Hey Rich, yeah, I'm beginning to think you are right. I have developed a micro-bubble problem, but only recently. I'd say in the past 10 days or so. Up until now, it has worked beautifully. Couple of things I wish I had done differently. I originally had the baffels reversed, but had several...

    what's the big difference??

Ok, this is the final drawing that I used: Here are a couple of the finished product before plumbing and water (and of course before the upgraded skimmer):

    what's the big difference??

I have a few up on my gallery website: http://www.kemmcosolutions.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=3521&g2_page=5 I could probably get a few more for you tomorrow after work. It's pretty straight forward, only took me a few minutes to actually assemble. Longest time was planning it out. I...

    under the stand pictures

Ok, I gotta ask this. Do you guys CLEAN everything right before taking a picture? I mean, sheesh! Some of your equipment looks like it was just installed 2 hours ago! Mine always has something all over it. Salt creep, spash spots, grime of some un-identifiable sort. Short of ripping it all...

    T5 Vs MH

Everything I've read says that High Output T5 can give you the same par penetration that MH gives you, just without the shimmer and without the heat. I've also seen some dispute over whether you can get the same color schemes with T5 that you can with MH. So far, I have T5s over my 55, and have...

    what's the big difference??

LOL! Definitely more options with a sump in my opinion. Check out your local glass houses for the baffels. I was able to get my local glass house to cut the panes for me to size and even round over the top edge to allow for better water flow. See if they will "polish" the edges for you after...

    what's the big difference??

Rev, seems to me your current WD is functioning as a form of a sump at this point because it has live rock in it and not the bio-material. Essentially, from my understanding, the extra water volume, the possibility of incorporating a refugium, additional filtration with more live rock/live...
