Don't put it in a mesh metal bag, it will just collect junk. I just have in in there, it is more like branch than rubble to there is plenty of room back there for things to flow through. I just vacuum them out every few months to make sure nothing collects back there.
Just left the back chamber in the dark. Threw cured live rock in there and I am glad I kept it separate as it has aipsatia and mojamo. Need to pull that out tomorrow. I live in Brielle NJ (08730). We threw some in our 20g and in the 20g refugium and now a nice little colony took form on the live...
I very luckily had a red macro algae as a hitch hiker on some live rock. This way I do not have to worry about lighting a back chamber and adding chaeto. The algae looks cool and actually glows under the led moon lights. If anybody wants some let me know, it is about to be trimmed.
In the...
On a more serious note, get the chocolate chip star out of the tank or he will eat your anemone. You can look at a dwarf angel like a flame, coral beauty, flamback or pygmy. You might be able to fit certain reef safe wrasses in there or one of the smaller tang species. You also might want to add...
I think you m
Well if you are going to go this route you might as well get a Nahacky's Angelfish. Absolutely beautiful dwarf angel that would easily fit in a 55 gallon.

If you can find one they generally run...
Pull the chocolate chip star out, they will eat corals and are not reef safe at all. I have not heard of calcium builing on walls but if you have a glass tank get a scraper.
For mynd.
Top down view of our zoa rock. There are nuclear greens, purple deaths, jokers, purple people eater, and alpha and omegas in there.
Two good pictures of our clowns near the anem. Both get a nice pic here.
Don't get the lettuce nudibranch they don't eat hair algae. They only eat a specific type of macro algae and as onefish2fish said they can very easily get chopped up in a powerhead.
You don't need to put any fish back there. We use it as a space to throw hermits that are either hunting snails/other hermits. Our fuge has sand, live rock, and chaeto and that is it. We did buy DTs copepods to help get the pod culture going back there. Our liverock and chaeto were not coming...
When we found the mandarin he was laying on his back and we thought he was dead, but when we scooped him up he was still alive. Unfortunately he was beyond the point of no return and we just separated him until he passed away a little while later.
I put the orchid up for sale and I know he is...
The mandarin was on live copepods which we supplemented with live brine that we cultured. We also bought copepods to make sure we had enough in the tank. We also had him eating some of the rods reef food.
Go with like 5-7 hermit crabs scarlet and blue leg. You don't need a ton of them and they can be nasty little things. We use cerith and nassarius snails to stir up the sand bed and astrea snails. You don't have to go nuts with a cleanup crew because the hermits will eventually hunt your snails...
Well the dottyback will just have to be sold. We had the mandarin for over 5 months and we put more effort into making sure that fish did well due to their needs. At least we will be more prepared for the new one.
It all comes down to preference. We love ornamental shrimp and have a pair of cleaner shrimp in each of our tanks. We also like fire shrimp although they hid a bit more.
You can really pick almost any fish from a few groups. A pair of clowns is always a crowd favorite and you can choose between many colors/patterns. If you do a pair of clowns you would be able to do maybe one other fish. Gobies you can do 3-4 of them and choose from many different ones and even...
In our 30G we had a pair or picasso clowns, an orchid dottyback, a mandarin, and a goby/pistol shrimp pair. They all got along just fine and the orchid was never ever ever ever aggressive. In fact he hid most of the time whenever we were around. We added a coral beauty angelfish to the mix and...
What were you thinking for fish? I think you will be fine without a skimmer. You could also look into a HOB refugium and put carbon and phosban in there and forego the skimmer.
