I am all for cheato in the fuge.  I don't think your pod production will be good without some cheato.  My pods are all through the cheato.  I have to assume the live on and in it.  Second I see a change for the better when I harvest the cheato.  I don't think that skimming alone is the best way...

Welcome to the club. Read a bunch of the threads in the nano forum here including those by mnat. Will give you a good idea of what is going on. There are a lot of crap nano skimmers..I had a fission don't waste your money. Before you buy ask for opinions you will save a ton.

Flow with cheato will help, I have found that good flow through the cheato helps it thrive and aslo keeps the cyano to a minimum..have seen soome on the edges of my sump in warmer weather but that is it.

Think I have heard that Marco Rocks is selling sand now pretty good price. I used Dr F&S for what is worth as is cheepest shipping.
