Klir Filter vs Clarisea vs Rolltermat

So I've preordered the Klir Di-4 from Joe @ Iconic Aquariums, waiting for that to be released at the beginning of September. I've never run filter socks on my tank, since I knew myself well enough to realize that I wouldn't change them often enough. I've got a lot more fish in my system now than...

Almost 3 month time lapse of my tank...

At the beginning, you can see the cyano issue I was having on the sand bed. Near the end of April, I installed my homebuilt algae scrubber, and you can see the improvement. Looking forward to running this for longer.

180g tank leak, and what goes through your head...

Woke up this morning, went to let the dog out, set my phone down next to our 180g turtle tank. Picked up phone, and it was damp. Oh no. Start investigating tank, and there's a small bead of water all the way across the front, and a tiny bit on the sides. Can't reach the back of this tank, as...

    Photobucket users - READ THIS

Seems like photobucket has become pretty popular with folks on this site! One thing, if you insert images using the default code, it makes your posts difficult to read for users on mobile phones because it leaves the forum and opens the image in a browser. And the fix is simple! Here's an...

    WTB Reef Octopus XP-8000EXT Skimmer

Looking for a new or used Reef Octopus XP-8000EXT. Apparently these are back ordered for several weeks, so if any vendor has one taking up space... I'd also consider used if anyone is looking to upsize/downsize.

    Collette's Reef Basslet

This is the only video I've been able to capture of my reef basslet over the past six months: a 5 second flyby viewed from the back of the tank with room lighting only. Pretty fish, but oh so cryptic! http://youtu.be/2jm-fGv5KCo

    Remote mystery, possible calc crash?

I'm away from my tank, but have a friend checking the tank. Doing this all remotely... I noticed a pH spike this morning, so he went over. It spiked up to 9.5 in just 10-15 minutes, and has been coming back down to normal over the course of the day (around 8.3). The calc right now is >520, dkh...

    jpelzer's 240 in-wall reef

So it's taken me a while to get this thread started, and of course the tank is still very much a work in progress. But enough has happened that I better start documenting before I start to forget. As you can see from my 'member since,' I've been in the hobby for while, a little over a decade...

FS: Brand new Apex Lunar Simulation Module (LSM)

So I've been waiting for months for my Apex LSM w/ 5 LEDs to come back in stock, and last week I saw the 3 LED version was in stock, and ordered it. I received it yesterday, and just received notice today that they've already shipped me my backordered 5-LED version. So now I'll have two modules...

    New Avast Marine CS1

DIY CS1 with recirc mod being inspected for defects by Dippy. I bought the kit version, took a few hours to assemble (not counting drying time). Swabby on top, it's already pulling a really nice foam. Not bad for $200.

    Lower power consumption

I had a mag 12 running my AquaC skimmer, and a Reeflo Dart as my return pump (+ a little pump running my gfo/gac reactor). I realized my Dart had plenty left over, so I replumbed yesterday, picture tells 1000 words:

Sour tale of Ecotech Vortech pumps

Alright, so as of about a week ago, I was a big fan of Ecotech Vortech pumps, I have an MP40 plus the WXM module for my Apex to control it. I was about to participate in a group buy and I added an MP60 to my order. Then I found out that Ecotech doesn't allow retailers to discount their products...

    Seneye - Anyone have one?

Interested to know if anyone has a Seneye (http://www.seneye.com/), what they think of it. Among other things, it is a PAR meter, which seems good for costing less than $200. I think I'm going to order one.

    Hello again!

Some of you may remember me from the early days of the club, and from the beginning until about 6 months ago, this site ran on my servers. I fell out of the hobby due to moving from the apartment where my 75g had lived, and not having a stable location to set up a new tank. Well, it's time to...

    Children's Education

Does anyone know of a marine educator who can handle a small-group of children (probably fewer than 10)? Ideally, they'd have some creatures that could be brought for a touch-tank type experience, and of course the ability to give a neat presentation and answer some questions. Late-April...
