Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

Hi everyone. My name is Lesa. From Toms River. My husband Kevin and I have been into saltwater on and off since we met 31 years ago. On again for the last year and a half or so after about a 2 year hiatus. We have a Red Sea reefer 525xl. We have heen going slowly this time but went all in this time, and just got our first corals. Live stock includes many snails, hermit crabs, emerald crabs, porcelain crabs, purple urchin, sand sifting star, ritteri anemone who hosted our lone clown fish, a couple of condylactic anemones, 4 pajana cardinals, purple pseudochromis, six line wrasse, yellow watchman gobi, lawn mower blenny second one jumped last week, yellow tang, hippo tang, mimic tang, and a sailfin tang. In the last 2 months we started adding corals, 3 to be exact a neon green hammer coral, metallic galaxea coral and an orange fungia. We recently started culturing our own phytoplankton and copepods with great success using posiden reef phyto tanks (instead of buying them) and hatching and attempting to grow out brine shrimp. This time around it has been a great experience for us. We were thrilled to find this club and look foward to connecting with other reefers locally and in all of NJ in hopes to gather more knowledge and maybe help other out.

What's up NJ Reefers!?!?

My name is Gaspare Urso and live in Cranford. Originally from Queens, married a b'klyn girl and you guessed it moved to Brooklyn. As everyone knows the natural progression is Queens => LI and Bklyn => to NJ. So here I am 13 years later, wife and 3 healthy kids.

Many many years ago I had freshwater tanks (think Petland Discounts days) and after scuba diving in Cancun and seeing a few fish and a graveyard I thought I wanted to create something beautiful. After a year or two of asking questions on R2R, i took advantage of some construction being done in my house and bought a waterbox mini peninsula 25 (Black Friday deals in 2020). It's still dry :( but I'm getting there.

I wanted to join a Reef Club once I started my tank thinking it would be great to get advice from my neighbors. To be honest the idea came when I was considering renting a PAR meter from BRS, I was thinking I could prob join and support a local reef club and I bet someone in the club has one. Anyway, I rather support local vs renting one.

I do have a build thread on R2R found HERE I see this site also has a build thread, is there any way to "sync/link" them to avoid building two threads and maintaining them?

Looking forward to the comradery!
Gaspare

Welcome guys

Welcome welcome all. Best advice in the world. Post a lot. And ask a lot. And don’t forget to share your experiences. We all learn from each other. Doesn't matter if you have been reefing ten years or ten days. Of course tried and true old salts are an awesome resource that should never be ignored. But plenty of fresh ideas come from newbies who haven’t been molded into a single way of looking at things. So enjoy, share and Happy Reefing.
