I had some brown algae that went to hair algae on my overflow. I decided to leave my A/C on all day so that I can turn on my new lights. 2x250W MH, 2x54W T5 15K and in a quick two day period now I have green hair algae on the glass and on the overflow...
Should I scrape this off immediately...
Do people put freon/recharge air conditioners? I remember seeing it done once, and would like to do so for my bedroom a/c. Everyone I come across seems to only do central air or commercial locations.
I'm wondering if I should just buy another air conditioner
I know that purple algae is good and that green hair algae is bad. But what about the other forms of algae...? ie. Brown algae growing on my overflow box.
What algae should I remove/worry about and what do I leave alone?
Now that I have my lights, I'm curious to see how much evaporation I lose each day, but I'd say if it was about a gallon or two per day, are 10% weekly water changes still needed?
My glass sump doesn't sit under my tank in the stand and my tank doesn't have a hood.
About half my sump's glass and the wall behind it constantly builds up salt. The salt on the glass is noticeable and the salt on the wall only if you slide your fingers along the wall. Am I damaging my wall by...
I first heard about stray voltage at a members house when I was buying LR. I forgot how he was able to tell w/out any equipment. I looked it up online today and found this...
I was thinking about a brittle sea star and a snowflake eel, and some other fish that may potentially escape. I feel by not putting a lid on my tank, I'm greatly limiting my fish options.
Many of the tanks I've seen and pictures, don't have lids.
Do you cover your tank? If so, what kind of...
I just bought about 35lbs of LR from someone breaking down their tank to start another. Some nice purple on it, but also some green hair algae. I'm curious as to the opinions of whether I should dump this right in my tank, let it all dry out and die then put it in, or remove some of the green...
So my tank has been cycling for about 3-4 weeks now.
While I'm trying to get my tank temp to lower than 81 degrees, waiting for my auto top-off, and upgraded lighting...Is there anything I can put in my tank, so that I have something to look at when I come home other than just LR, LS, and...
I have a Euroreef ES-4 and no matter how I play with it, I can't get it to skim dry. It either overflows the cup or the bubbles never make it up to the neck.
I've put it in 4"-10" of water and no luck. The output part, I have removed the two plastic tubes, and that's when the bubbles don't...
It's great that I don't even hear the motors for everything, but my loudest piece is the gurgling of my HOB Overflow.
Any methods out there to shut the thing up?
So I bought camz28's 30gallon tank to use for my sump/fuge for my 55gal.
I created three main sections with the two 1" apart baffles before it gets to the return.
Water overflows into the first compartment where the skimmer is and heater will be, then into the 2nd where the refugium is...
So I'm struggling with hard to flex tubing between my tank and my on the side sump. I'm wondering if this is the reason why I see everyone using PVC vs. a clear plastic tube?
Or is it more due to bacterial reasons? I will be swapping out the tubing for PVC this weekend.
I was hoping to get some various opinions with Pros/Cons on (non drilled tank):
Setup #1
HOB Refugium
Canister Filter w/ overflow mod to grab water from the top
Protein Skimmer
Setup #2
On the side of the tank (no room for underneath)
In Sump Refugium
Protein Skimmer
I was currently going...
Do I need to have my sump/fuge filtration running before I can put the sand and cured LR in? I would like to start putting in the sand and LR while setting up and getting the proper plumbing for my sump/fuge.
My untested salty RO/DI water is already in the tank.
On Mother's Day...in the middle of filling my 5gal bucket of RO/DI water, I leave my second floor condo to head to the office for some off-hours network maintenance leaving the slow trickle at the hands of my girlfriend. Many hours later, I get home with just enough time to throw some clothes on...
I just realized that to keep my RO/DI unit valid under the warranty; no iron can be present in the feed water. I'm somewhat new to NJ, but remember hearing that NJ water is high in iron. It says iron should be removed from feed water? How is this done? Anyone else with an RO/DI unit removing the...
