Are the three holes near the top of the standpipe supposed to be above, in the middle, or below the top of the water line?
Also is it better to have the flow from that standpipe discharging below the waterline or at the waterline in the sump? I was curious about this because when I turn my...
Re: To MH or not to MH?
I think this is the case. If you go up to Absolutely Fish you can see Solaris on a tank side by side with MH and "visually" it is not nearly as bright. The corals in the tank seem to look fine, but I don't think there were an SPS in there.

Re: To MH or not to MH?
What's your definition of rival? If it electricity and heat, that's one thing, if it is performance, I do not think that is the case.

Another view.
How bad is the rock and how good is your other tank? If the conditions in your "good" tank make it so that algae cannot grow, I would say that the algae on the rock you are putting in will die off from lack of proper conditions. I would scrub the rock and put it in your tank, or...
Thanks.
Of course I wouldn't put Windex in the tank. I was referring to putting it on the pipe. I was even concerned about that. I got the answer now though. Actually I won't let my wife spray window cleaner in the room with the tank.
Thanks,
Ken
Thanks for the comments.
I saw that article and some others after doing more research. On one hand, this urchin really is beautiful. It looks almost like a lion fish in person. After further reading, I am concerned with it accidentally spearing some of my LPS or an anenome. I'm going to bring...
Hi Sam,
If it was as simple as that, there would be no debate. What I want to know is how LED lighting compares to MH.

By the way, still got that damn maroon clown.
I just purchased this sea urchin and it is in a bucket acclimating. While I was doing that, I tried to do a search on the net. Does anyone know if it is safe for shrimp, snails, sps and lps? Also can they potentially jab lps and an anemone with it's spines? I asked the store owner and he said it...
I don't know the answer to this. I posted the other day asking if anyone had switched from MH. I was curious on the effect on the corals going from MH to Solaris, not someone starting from scratch with Solaris. I would love to hear that Solaris is just as good, plus the added bonus of no chiller...
I wanted to put a bulkhead on a rubbermaid trash can. Will it seal and not leak since the can is curved? Do I just use the rubber gasket and nut and on a tank or sump, or should I use silicone?
Thanks,
Ken
Has anyone switched (on the same tank) from MH to Solaris. If so, what do you think? I am using a comb of 250 watt DE 10,000k Ushio bulbs, and T5. I was wondering how it compares.
Thanks,
Ken
