    Your RO might be worthless

I'm half tempted to not use the membranes at all (no waist water) and just run sediment filters directly into 2 separate large resin beds (not mixed resin). Then I can recharge them at will. I need to figure out the economics of doing it both ways and see what's going to be cheapest overall...

    Increasing calcium levels

I'll only add one thing. Use the calculator RichT pointed out for your product of choice to determine dosing. Make sure to add both an alkalinity product as well as a calcium product to keep them balanced and occasionally check your Magnesium levels and dose this too as needed (way less often...

    Your RO might be worthless

My personal solution: I presently have a 5 stage Typhoon III and a Coralife 4 Stage RO/DI filter. I also have a standalone canister. This gives me a total of 2 membranes and 8 canisters to work with at present. My plan at this point is to run: Canister 1: 10 micron sediment filter Canister 2...

    Your RO might be worthless

Further down in the thread on RC Charles also mentions: "Centaur Catalytic carbon is very effective at breaking the chloramine bond. With peroxide numbers below 15, it is 5 times as effective as bituminous carbon at removing chloramines. Since empty bed contact time (EBCT) is reduced...

    Your RO might be worthless

IMPORTANT READ FOR RO/DI USERS - long but important! As many of your know I've been working on a salt mixture and had sent results out to be tested to see how they match my meter and testing. They tested for more then typical salt elements and I found something troubling. After investigating...

Info & Feedback wanted on Marine Salt Mixes

Queenie, Good input DaveK, Ya know what's pretty funny about those are that Central Pet and Garden owns Kent. However Kent salt is made by Aquarium Systems which is a Marineland company. :) I didn't ask for the formulations of the salt. I'm sure they wouldn't answer that question or just say...

Info & Feedback wanted on Marine Salt Mixes

I've never put much faith in the S10 or S15 reports. Besides they date back to the late 80s. Way too much has changed in forumulation of the salts theses days. I had emailed the company and asked for a breakdown on the salt and got back the same info that they still have on the S-15 report for...

Info & Feedback wanted on Marine Salt Mixes

Aquacraft.net's website says the product has de-chlorinator in it. That's where I got that from. Although I've never tested this salt I've went back and looked at there chemical compositions. Here's a few observations: Potassium is shown as 382 but independent tests show it around 250 (very...

My Xenia, paly and GSP ain't looking right.

It's funny, I almost mentioned NOT to get the Red Sea Alk test. :) Huston, we have a problem. But we can fix it. The API test vial (tube) you're using has a fill line on it that is 5ml. The Red Sea Alk test needs 10ml of tank water. So get something that is big enough to hold 10ml of water and...

My Xenia, paly and GSP ain't looking right.

The pH measurement he did is garbage. You can't transport your water and expect to get a good pH reading. This is one you need to do at home. Which Alk & pH test kit did you get? Do you remember the number the person in the store told you for alk? BTW, to convert meq/l to dHK multiply by 2.8...

Actually, there is a lot of problems with what the site says. I was concerned right off the bat when I read this: "Saltwater Correct 2 Part Artificial Sea Salt System is truly the closest artificial sea salt mix to simulate natural seawater in all of the following top 6 element categories: (...

Hit the problem myself and then searched on reefcentral and found a thread on it. Do a search for it and you'll find batch numbers. I had 3 boxes all with different batches and two were on the list! This is actually from a few months back but unfortunately many of these kits are still sitting on...

Generally speaking you wouldn't want to do that because you would quickly throw the ionic balance of the elements off. There are over 70 major & minor elements in sea salt so you really wouldn't want to do that.

Actually, don't worry about picking up any Turbo Calcium. I forgot your have the Liquid Calcium already. Pretty much the same thing but one is liquid versus powder. Let's also eliminate the Mg test from the earlier post as the difference isn't worth the understanding. Just do this: If lfs alk...

Yep, good point. I guess the pre-measure bags wouldn't be a hit with anyone running a FOWLR type system either as they would run lower salinity most likely. Carlo

Not that I'm aware of. It's funny, the only thing that stands out in my mind from his M.A.R.S.H. Salt Study tests was the IO tank with the bad cyano. There's a thread on RC about it with a link to another site where it continues a little more then at RC but no stats were ever provided that I...

    RO/DI

There's nothing wrong with that unit if you only need small amounts of water. It's basically the last stage in our RO/DI units. It uses DI resin. If you want to keep using it look into buying 5lb bags of DI resin. You'll get about 4 uses from a 5 gallon bag and the bag should cost you about $25...

If it were me I'd stop all dosing including the vitamins. I'd take a water sample to your LFS and get them to check your alkalinity & calcium levels. Ask if they will also do a Magnesium & Strontium test too. Report back your numbers. These last two elements could get thrown out of whack because...

That's pretty darn tall for a sump. How much height do you have under the stand? Also you didn't mention what length you need. Carlo
