Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Yep, because your temp dropped to quickly. It's not like it dropped over 6 months but over a day or two. It stressed out the tank.
BTW, what do you mean your ALK is 300???
Nitrates of 20 aren't the end of the world. It would be nice to be in the 5-10 range but many parts of the ocean...
Well I'm not so sure about the "free bucket" as the same brands in boxes versus buckets is usually about $3/4 difference. I totally agree on how nice a bucket is however. I hadn't really thought much about box versus bucket but was thinking bags in either. I don't see any issue having 3-5 bags...
I think they're 32 gallon cans. At least I have one that says 32 gallons. My thought on the 25 gallon bag size is that you could use almost anything including a 32 gallon can just only filled partially. My thought was if you only have a 55 or 75 gallon tank you wouldn't need to make up as much...
Forgot one question I wanted in feedback.
What in your opinion is the best size salt bag that will mix to a perfect 35ppt salinity? For example if you mix your salt bucket in a Brute 44 Gallon trash can you could fill the can to 1" from the top and pour in a pre-measure bag of salt and have it...
Reefaholic, send me a pm with contact info and let me know what kind of packageing and shipping supplies you sell.
GregW, "Carlo Crystals" - Is that an order from the salt department or the meth lab? :)
Ironically the formal name of the company is "Reef Complete" but using RC in the name is out...
Twan what salt mix do you use?
Do you happen to know the normal pH of your tank?
How long did you mix the water before adding it to the tank?
Did you check the pH of the salt water mix before adding it to the tank?
I ask these specific questions because I've notice xenia going south with rapid...
I've been studying salt mixes pretty in depth for the last year. As many of you know I purchase many chemicals in bulk and turn around and wholesale these to different stores. I also formulate different additives. For those that didn't know this I guess you do now. I don't sell retail (yet) so...
If you have other corals in the tank I'd completely remove the xenia from the tank and possible due what Phyl suggested with the bucket (good idea).
When xenia starts to kick it will usually all go. It's better to be safe then sorry. If you go the bucket route you can always move it back later...
I'd leave it growing in the sump too. Many of these types of algae grow better and faster then Macros like Cheato. Any algae will use up your excess nutrients so if it's contained in that spot only let it do it's thing. Better there then in the display.

Re: 2008 Meeting Schedule
That's different then the official state boundaries which I always thought were goofy. I never even gave a thought to "club" boundaries. What you put here makes way better sense then the official state stuff.
With that said if no one new takes June I'll host it. I was...
Re: 2008 Meeting Schedule
I'll do an August South meeting. Give the kids a chance to use the pool during the meeting. By then I might be close to 3,000 gallons if I keep going at the current rate. :)
Carlo
That shouldn't happen either Phyl if the container is marked for potable water use.
Most if not all of the time people blame a container when the water sits. You can get the same effect using glass where the TDS will go up as the water sits. It's from dirty air and bacteria. You should always...
Which part of my "sump", the 40g skimmer box, 55g for the reactors/filters/uv or the 150g return tank? I'm filling up a 300g stock tank as we speak (RO/DI never fast enough) to fill with rock that will technically be part of my "sump" too. :)

It's not a bad store at all. I just wished they had more "salty" stuff since it's the closest store to my house.
Once thing I'll tell you is, NOT to go there for salt. Talk about high prices! $46 for a bucket of IO, $73 for Tropic Marin (not pro), $53 (or so) for Reef Crystals...
It might be...
I'll go against the common "wisdom" and say that most of the pygmies will get a long pretty well as long as they don't have the same coloration which most don't.
Carlo
I swiped much of the info from that thread and "paraphrased" it.
It's where I got the head's up on the Bromide part but I've never liked DowFlake anyway.
