    Yes, I have them plugged into Intermatic DT27 digital timers, with the blues coming on first, then white, etc.

    I'm not sure where your concern is. If your tank and sump isn't sealed in some way with lids, etc. and you have a decent skimmer, and if the lowest reading is 8.0, there's really nothing to worry about. Here's a good read: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.php
