Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I was at the shop yesterday dropping off some frags for their tank. Arin said you were i Friday night. We also talked about the show, she said her and Kris were going up. As I said, I am going up for Saturday so maybe I'll see ya there.
It's open to non-divers also. Last year they had a pool set up where folks could get in and try SCUBA to see if it was something they really wanted to try. My youngest son and girlfriend tried it last year and were hooked. So this year I got them certified. My oldest son and I tried it last year...
Since there has been quite a bit of SCUBA talk around here lately, I was wondering if anyone was planning on attending this years Beneath the Sea show at the Meadowlands Expo Center. It is similar to a MACNA but for SCUBA.
I already have my tickets for Saturday the 27th.
Here is a link for...
If you're unsure about it, contact one of the dive shops and schedule yourself for a Discover Scuba session. They will go over the basics with you and then get you in the water. If you like it and feel comfortable go for your certification. Discover Scuba is a great way for people to try it...
It will definitely play a role in your buoyancy when diving, but mainly it will mean you will require less weight to become neutrally buoyant. The wetsuit and buoyancy compensator will make you float.
How's the goby doing?
It's hard to suggest any treatment plan without knowing if it is a parasitic or bacterial issue. The treatments for each differ greatly.
Here's a list of NJ dive shops. Find a couple that are in your area and make some calls as to course fees and schedules. When asking them about the fees, be sure to find out everything that is included in the cost and what will need to be paid for extra.

You are looking at a minimum of a 300 gallon tank kept at around 65-67F. Not to mention a continuous supply of live aquacultured mysid shrimp. IMHO, these belong left in the ocean and enjoyed in their natural habitat. Public aquariums have a hard time keeping them alive. They are extremely...
One side definitely wouldn't be eggs. Plus you need a pair to get eggs, they won't produce them with just one.
With it not leaving the middle of the cap that is going to make any treatment really difficult. You have to treat in a separate tank. I looked through my books quickly last night and...
Is the whole body swollen or just a lump on one side? If it's the whole body, and you have a pair of gobies, it is possible to be full of eggs.
Does the fish seem to be having any issues with buoyancy? Positive or negative in any way?
I wish I had more advice for you, but it's hard to tell what...
I told Kris I'd bring him some frags for the small tank at the shop. My leathers need some serious trimmings. If I get them cut in time maybe I'll shoot back out next weekend too.
I finally made the trek out to The Dive Shop today, spent about 2 hours talking with Kris and Arin. Great little shop and great people. I'll probably end up doing a couple dives with them this year too.
Cold water diving does require a bit more work, but for me it is more rewarding and enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, it was great to see the diversity of life down in FL. Maybe the Caribbean will be different if I ever make it down there one day.
I've never dove the Caribbean, closest I did was some warm water diving in Fl. It was ok, but I much prefer diving up here. Call me crazy, lol.
Maybe I'll take a run out to the Dive Shop this weekend. You wouldn't happen to know their hours would you?
Yeah I had heard the same thing. Not sure I'd really wanna be in the water at Dutch with those crowds and having spears going off. Be like shooting fish in a barrel except the fish would probably the only things safe. lol
If you want to do some reading on the Jersey wrecks, check out Gary...
The best part about Dutch is that it offers things for non-diving family members to do. Bainbridge is strictly diving or snorkeling. I just wish they'd let ya spearfish in the quarries. lol
My shop has a set of used 120's for sale that are just going out of hydro the end of the month.Have to...
