    Reef safe silicone

Agree with @Mark_C , using a large bead of silicone if doing acrylic to glass. Don't think pretty, think function, and a thick bead will help hold that baffle. Also, let the silicone cure for as long as you can wait.....three day minimum for me.

    Parameter

HERE's a nice little article from Dr. Farley about water parameters. As far as your zoa's are concerned, they don't consume alk, calc and mag....they are soft corals with no calcified skeleton.

Seaside Aquatics Curve ES5 Skimmer (Bubble Magus Curve 5) - Sayreville

I thought this would have gone quick......last chance before I post on other sites. It's a nice little skimmer.

    Power outages in NJ.....

Here's my story.....I've lived in this house for 36 years. When we have a power outage, before I can get up off my butt to find a flashlight, the power has come back on. I don't know if they re-route, or what they do, but we just don't get power outages......until. A couple months before...

    Power outages in NJ.....

I don't care if I lived in an apartment.....and they had a rule against generators. If I own a reef tank, I'm having a generator....even if it's a small one from Harbor Freight. I'll put it out on my patio/deck and run this thing until the power comes back on. Either that, of have the...

    PH concerns

You'll only need the 7 and 10. Good laboratory practice tells me I shouldn't stick the probe directly into the solution bottles. Pour a small quantity into a test tube; rinse the probe in RO/DI and then stick your probe into this test tube....calibrate....and then dump that solution down...

    White speks in water?

I have had issues with buckets, even with the lid clicked all the way closed.....that's why I prefer the bags in the 200 gallon boxes. Even resealing the bucket, I've had a crust form on the surface when humidity was high. So here's what I do with the bags. I roll/fold the bag closed...

    PH concerns

A couple points about pH probes: 1. They must ALWAYS remain wet....in some solution. 2. They can never, ever be completely submerged. If saltwater (or any other liquid) gets into the probe, it's done! c. If the probe becomes sluggish, they can be cleaned by soaking in vinegar overnight, and...

    DI Bypass valve

Marcus, here's a full view shot. The water comes from the RO unit (from the membrane exit) to the valve. Right now the valve is positioned to run the water to waste (I collect my waste water in the 55 gallon drum). Once TDS out of the membrane stabilized (usually around 1 or 2...

    Reef Crystals 200 Gallon Box

I've purchase salt from Dr. Foster's and Smith.....RC is 49.99 for a 200 gallon box, free shipping. Your mailman will love you. I get the plain IO for 39.99 a 200 gallon box.

    PH concerns

I'd be surprised if the pH is actually 7.5. What are you using to maintain ALK. The best for keeping pH up is kalkwasser.....and then supplement with two part when the kalkwasser can't keep up with demand.

    White speks in water?

First off, I would never use tap water......RO/DI or purchase water if need be. The "snow" you are seeing is precipitated carbonate that will not go back into solution. Moisture must have gotten to the salt. I have seen yellow bags with RC that has been exposed to moisture....but you also...

    Free Starry Blenny

The Starry Blenny was one of my favorite fish....they have such a personality. Not only that, they can turn their stars on and off....but not sure what causes this....being relaxed or stressed. My guy use to perch and watch me walk around the fish room. I had to watch when I turned off...

    What is your dream fish?

Although not a fish, I'd love to have a relation with a bottlenosed dolphin....Flipper! Never in a tank, but in open water. I grew up on the show, Flipper, and would have loved to have that relationship with a dolphin....and yes, I realize it was hockum!......The Lassie of the Sea...

    Calling Fishermen....

Wow, I learned something today. I use to be an avid bicyclist.....yea, those spandex pants and all....and just realized that Shimano bicycle stuff is made by the same company that makes Shimano fishing stuff. If their fishing stuff is like their bike stuff, it's quality. I think the...

    DI Bypass valve

Flush kits are only for the membrane. What is does is bypass the restrictor, allowing water to rapidly flow through the membrane flushing out any larger deposits. It won't help with membrane TDS creep. That's what the valve is for....run it to waste for a couple minutes.

    DI Bypass valve

Here's my valve. The white line coming from the upper left corner is coming from the Membrane. To the right of the valve is the DI Resin container....and the valve is positioned to be running the water through the DI Resin. Going to the left is the waste line. When I first turn on my...

    DI Bypass valve

Sorry, I've been MIA with no or very limited service. The one @saltkreep88 linked is the one I use. Your line from the membrane comes into the "vertical" portion of the tee, while one "horizontal" goes to waste, and the other horizontal goes to your DI. Works great and has saved my DI by...

    Mixing Salt

A couple points: Temperature of water: It sounds counter intuitive, but you're better off mixing the salt without putting any heat into it. First mix the salt, and once mixed, raise the temperature to match DT temperature. Water Volume: Have ALL your water in the mixing container before...
