Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Agreed.
You will also see your tank go through various stages of bacteria bloom (maybe less with the fact that your rock is all live). It is all part of the initial cycle.
Herbie & Anna, thank you so much for opening your home to us. We really enjoyed ourselves. Your tank is stunning (even the shroom tank downstairs..shhhh). Thanks for the donations to the club. I hope everyone enjoys the corals that they got from you!
In grand fashion the newbie luck was in full...
Can you post a picture? What were your temperature, mg, ph, alk, ca, trate, PO4 numbers? What light do you have over them? What size tank? What light were they in before? What fish do you have in the tank?
I think that any time you add a fish you upset the balance and the selected hiding spots. That can most certainly cause fish to behave differently as the stresses on them have changed.
We used an aquaclear wet dry under our 120. I can't imagine it is as big as a 40g breeder. Give it a try and if it isn't big enough c'mon over and go "shopping". I'm sure we have something here you can have.
Does your 125 have 1 overflow or two? That's really where the change would be. As long as your using the same pump and the same number of overflows (and your returns are higher in the tank), you could set it up so that the water volume back siphoning into the tank will be the same.
We might...
Did you try the actinics only as Jeff suggested. That's most likely the problem. You don't have a heavy stock of leathers so that's not likely the cause.
We wandered that same path. Increasing water changes, seeing the start of dynoflagelettes. Finally we did a major water change with TMP and haven't looked back. All signs of dynos are completely gone. All the algae that was cropping up on the pumps and rock gone. Back to our happy clean tank. *whew*
My theory on the "I've always used it" is that you haven't ever introduced large amounts of it at once. We were doing 120g water changes with it and it was fueling algae like you couldn't believe. When we switched off the problems went away. If your system can handle and process the silicates it...
RO water/changes can only help the situation (unless you're using a salt high in silicates like the Red Sea Coral Pro-- then large water changes feed more silicates into the system).
The tank might just be going through "new tank syndrome" from the move. When did you move the tank?
The problem there is that you need to keep the live rock wet. So if you're going to do this you need to only use as much rock as fits under your low water line.
Alternatively you could add another baffle to raise the water in that chamber. I found it easier to just use an empty 10g tank. That's...
Not sure what meetings Dave normally attends (LOL) but they are usually from 1 to 5. The meeting/announcements/raffles start around 4.
Dan is going to be there to give a presentation on Solar. That will start around 3:00.
1-3 is food, drink, and chatting.
The link to the RSVP is in the first...
Trop always has a great selection of corals. Their staff is always friendly, helpful and there when you need them.
A bit of a hike for the North Jersey crew though!
I think we may have used that trainer, Taz! We had a similar trainer who also recommended it. We used his coller on Zenni and it was amazing how a little bit of buzz had her stop on a dime and run to me!
If we could borrow yours for a bit that would be fantastic!!
Thanks!
Wow. I hadn't heard about MJ until I got home and read this. Farrah was topic of conversation at the office today with the 20yo asking who she was. ACK.
