Not sure about that. Seems all the upgrades have their bumps. I sure hope you're right on this one! ;D

In Need of Emotional and Mental Support Right Now

Erna, Cindy and I will keep the whole family in our prayers. As both of our children spent the first days and in our daughters case, weeks in the NICU, we have had a small taste of what your family is going through. You have a built in support network that I am sure will be of great help, but...

    What's on your X-mas List?

Very much so! Keeping me very busy, but it's been very positive so far.

    What's on your X-mas List?

Just felt like playing Scrooge for a change. ;) I really thought Erna would have slapped me around a bit. There's no one big thing on my list. Just a bunch of books, music CD's and assorted fine spirits. ;)

    What's on your X-mas List?

All I want is global hunger and an end to world peace... or some sorta crap like that. >:(

    Cheapest lighting to run??

Here's a thread that has been running for quite some time on RC regarding Solatubes. SolaTubes for reef tanks

I need just a little ressuarnce

That's what I was refering to here: Keep up with carbon and water changes and you should be good. Instead of tossing a dying coral you can frag it by cutting out sections of good tissue. Keep some Lugols solution handy to dip the freshly cut pieces and you can regrow the coral in time.

My Green Bubble Coral needs help!

Before Mr. Bubble lost his battle with my since banished plate coral, I would feed him 1 or 2 silversides twice a week. They usually have a single mouth. 5-6 whole krill was an alternate meal. I would stop as the feeding response slowed down a bit.

I need just a little ressuarnce

How about a picture of the full tank and some close-ups of the stressed corals. For what it's worth "almost two months old" is far from a mature stable environment. Did you dip the zoas when you got them? Cuts and puss aren't good signs.

My Green Bubble Coral needs help!

Anything coming out of the mouth? When they have been eating, they do expel waste. When they are pi**ed off the expel some of their guts. Leave it alone for awhile and see what happens. That it is inflating more is a good sign. If it continues to expand try feeding something a little bigger...

My Green Bubble Coral needs help!

Shading is OK while it is stressed. If it's eating it can handle less light long term as well. When they are in lower light, they tend to extend more. When they extend, they are easier to feed. Eventually you will be able to move it out into the light more. Also, since you do have the...

My Green Bubble Coral needs help!

I would move it onto the sand in the lower right corner. Make sure it doesn't get too much flow. Continue to offer it food and keep up with water changes.

Interesting Things I've Learned During the Holidays

Next family holiday we host is Christmas. I'll remember to keep a pad by the tank to write the good ones down. ;)

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Thanks Jim, its called plausible deniability. "Gee honey, I did everything I could to keep water off the new carpet. Look I even had this high tech float switch thingy!"

    blange3's 180 upgrade

No problem James! Thanks for your concern. She was readmitted today and never should have been sent home last week; but that's a different story for a different day. ::) Besides, I didn't feel you guys were pushing, just enthusiastic about some life returning to this thread! ;D

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Patience! I'll get some this weekend. Between church stuff and my mother-in-law in and out of the hospital it's been tough to get any time to work on the tank. There really isn't too much to look at, but by Sunday I hope to have a lighted tank with sand and half the rock. Besides, there...

    blange3's 180 upgrade

The six foot wide was easy because there was a 7 foot wall open. But the room is a little narrow and she kept asking "Can it go a little closer to the wall?" In fact, when we set it up after the carpet came I said "OK we can go another half inch closer," and now I can't fully close the gate...

    Cheapest lighting to run??

Big difference between cheapest to run and cheapest to buy. James has done a good job of focusing on cheapest to run in his reply. I'll just fill in regarding VHO's that part of the savings is you can run without fans in most cases. But if you want to match the PAR of T5 setup, you need more...
