Melting xenia can definitely kill a tank. The heads you left look ok for now, but if they start to melt like the other ones did, get them out of there. I'd rather see them in a bucket of saltwater with a powerhead if you can't be there to watch over them.

As long as the lots are prior to 2007 you're ok with the existing DOW flake, by the conversations I've read on it. Buy it up now, before the 2007 lots hit the street some time this fall/winter. Not sure what the DIY market will do after that. Hopefully before we need to know "they" will have...

Why not pull the rock out and scrub the bulk of the sponge off of the rock? That should speed up the process.

My next advice would be to test some TM/TMP or other/next brand you're going to try. I can bring you a bit of salt if you're coming to the meeting on Sunday if you'd like to test TMP.
