Oh that's a problem. Sounds like an acrylic sump made for the 75 is the way to go if you can get one used. Maybe on RC. I think someone makes a 36x16 wide sump.
Look around for a 38 gallon standard. You won't need to modify the stand. They fit, they're often used under 75s.
I've only used drilled tanks so don't know whether it warrants switching that. But increasing water volume 25% is worth it.
If you're really going to do this, I'm going to make a comment to be helpful. Most folks have setup systems and are not going to be able to, or want to, pickup more than a couple of things. I don't think I've ever been in a position to obtain 50 corals or more. Most folks who've been doing...
I'd suggest doing some research on wetwebmedia.com. There's a relationship between Ca, Alk and Mg. When Ca goes up, which yours is, there can be a tendency for Alk to be held down. There's more to it than that, but some reading on that site should be enlightening.

It's something that can happen with any new fish. Powder blue tangs have a reputation to be extra sensitive. That said, I'd suggest, and I'm just shooting from the hip, to put him in a small like 10 gallon or 5 gallon with a rock that has algae "and" a veggie clip with nori. He will pass the...
You can use the current double MH fixture, but dump the 175 watt ballasts and pick up two 250 watt ballast or one dual ballast and connect them to the fixtures moguls. You can get the ballasts for next to nothing.
It really depends on what you keep in the tank. If you're a mixed reef with fish, coralline rock, softies zoas and some LPS than one 400 watt 14k about 12" above would do a great job. I'm running one 400 watt on a 90 gallon mixed reef, which is the same as the 120 but with 6" less width, and...
