Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Not a problem, I hope my situation helps other people avoid the same thing that happened to me. We are here to educate each other and share experiences, some good and some not so good. that's how IMO we grow in this hobby

for what you have now it might be a little too much I think 20x turnovers is more of an average for most people, but more is not necessarily bad. But if you decide on SPS corals then 35X turnover is perfect.

Aquariumsforyou.com in Long Branch NJ builds sumps. I have used them and would NOT recommend them. See my post in retailers experiences and it will explain.

Well after looking around for someone to build my 90 gallon sump i went with a company located in Long Branch NJ, Aquariumsforyou.com. From everything that i read in various places and posts about them they did not come highly recommended, but i went with them anyway because they were local and...
Well i finally picked up my sump yesterday. I found it funny that it was ready the day after i sent a nasty email. I am not very happy with the the sump. The seams are very sloppy looking and it was supposed to be 3/8 material but the bottom is 1/4". I'm hoping it does not leak.. Oh well i...
Well just an update.
I'm a little peeved. My new sump isn't ready yet. I was told it would have been done by last week. It's been over 30 days since i finalized the specs and i only received 1 vague update. I was told it would take about 3 weeks originally. I sent the company a nasty email and...
Saying all HOB skimmers are garbage is incorrect. I have own good and bad skimmers. I currently use the CPR BAKPAK on my 75 and it works like a champ. It consistently pulls out nasty green gunk and i would definately recommend it to anyone looking for a small HOB skimmer. I also owned a cheap...
let me premise this by saying that i have money strictly in stocks currently. Right now is not the best time to be investing. I have about 30% of my portfolio in Money Market funds until i see a bottom to this wild ride in the major indexes. The dow, S&P and nasdaq are all too volatile on a...
In most cases a hairy crab is a bad crab or at least not reef safe. I wouldn't chance it. I would put it somewhere like a QT tank until you can positively ID it. If it turns out to be harmless then i would keep it.

your return pump is too small for a return on a 180 IMO. your overflows are rated for 600GPH each. why would you want only roughly 300 returning? You would probably have more water flowing out of the 2 1" drains then coming back in. I would recommend something at least 1200GPH on a return pump...
Blue line 70D would be a perfect return pump. Where is your sump that you only have 5' of head? Mine is directly below my tank and i have 6' of head loss to the top of the overflows not counting elbows. Are you taking into account all the 90 degree elbows that you might have. If you use flexible...
T5's would be great. they produce almost no heat and you can get some great colors out of your corals with the different bulb options. I'm not a big fan of CF lighting, they add extra heat and don't last as long. I have the same tank as you. Did you go retro or did you buy a fixture

I prefer a sand bed. Last time i checked a bare bottom ocean doesn't exist ;D. But then again a bare bottom tank is easier to clean
Just my two cents
