Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
The problem with dosing is (as john mentioned) the difficulty around measuring what it is you are dosing.
For example - Iodine is known to many as important in a reef tank. yet it exists in various chemical compositions that it is difficult to measure correctly - and worse, it's been documented...
I'd be surprised if they were able to harm the pistol - but how big is it? I guess if it had just molted it would be at risk. A large pistol shrimp should easily be able to stun a fish that is dumb enough to enter it's burrow. But that shouldn't happen as long as the goby is guarding the burrow.
a general rule of thumb is that the eggs will not hatch (before the mag float cleans the glass)... ;D
But seriously even if you were to somehow keep the eggs aorund long enough for hatching - the snails typically hatch into a motile swimming stage. That is - they get blown around skimmed/eaten...
Oh - i missed this.
Depends on what it is you need. In my opinion most of it is not needed as long as you maintain a good level of water changes. But since a lot of us do not do that - we're left with rushing additives in to help keep the tank balanced (also it seems easier to dump a bag of...
glass anemone is another name for aipitasia right? then a bergia nudibranch is the way to go.
Personally I'd just take the LR out and squirt a bit o lemon juice that you can get from any supermarket. I know the book says to "inject" the stem of the anemone but I didn't bother - mine was a...
Actually they don't need salt at all as far as I know. I'm not a botanist but it's a plant like any other. The reason why you don't see it growing in Idaho is because it is out-competed by other plants. However in the water along the shore - "normal" trees/plants are not able to extract the...
unfortunately even the best retailers will have bad days. While one hopes that at any given moment they will be ready to help - it's just not that easy. Do you live near there is that why you went? I like bringing my wife to Trop and point to the big display and say "Hey if you want that kind of...
LOL_ not after a minute.
That first pic is fantastic - with a camera phone you say? Crisp and in focus.
what is that in the back left corner - chaeto? And uh...that's there because you want to grow pods?
Personally I'm not a fan of algae in the display. Were you going to get a HOB fuge? I'm...
quit hogging them to yourself ryan - i could use their advice sometimes too! ;D
If you are really worried about jumping - you could construct a top with window screen/fishing wire.
I have an open top - but my firefish is out all the time and has not shown any signs of nervousness. I...
i picked up a large one from AqOb a month ago and it has a little nook it sleeps in and is out everyday begging for food. My tank is open top and I've not had any issues. Still fish have a mind of their own and mine may still decide to jump. It's a risk I take.
Maybe being the biggest fish in a...
you could put a squammy in the sump. LOL. ;)
Gorgeous fish - probably one of the those fish that first hooked me to the hobby. Too bad they don't stay with the juvenile markings forever!
Sorry to say but the advice from your friend is not sound and is about 30 years old. A damsel/fish produces ammonia to help get the cycle going - but this can be easily done via a piece of shrimp you might buy at any local supermarket. It's definitely more humane at least since a fish living...
brine shrimp (the just-hatched babies excluded) is the nutrional equivalent to popcorn for humans.
It's fun to eat and the fish love it - but it's nutritionally inadequate. Feed it as a treat - not as a staple. Good luck!
oh and yes i can't count. Failed that at school. LOL.
For some reason...
never seen it before- and in my book if i can't id it positively as something good - it gets flushed. Doesn't mean I know everything - I just don't have the luxury/time to keep all the weird critters in separate tanks (or sump).
