Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Yea, you should turn off your ATO and the skimmer whenever you stop the return pump to avoid the extra wet skimming. Otherwise, you can easily be adding too much fresh ro/di and dilluting your saltwater.
By the way Anthony, how high above the water level are your AI Sol's?
Really great start Kevin. You certainly didn't skimp on the equipment and it looks like you have most everything pretty much automated, which is a rare thing for a newbie.
Good luck with it. Hope to see some progress.
Yea, I have to spellcheck my auto input on my phone all the time. Sometimes I wonder how the heck it thinks you are trying to say what it "corrects" lol.
I'm in SJ, but not quite as south as Brigantine. I'm in Blackwood, which is just over the bridge from Philly.
I know Sid (The_Codfather) lives in Tuckerton which is very close to you. There are a few others down your way also... Len (Twisted) is one, (Weinerdog)is another off the top of my...
I'm using the same 1-micron Matrikx carbon and 1-micron RoSave filters that Jim mentioned and I don't have any issues. I don't have a pressure gauge nor any kind of booster pump... just hooked right up to my hose tap in the garage... but it flows just fine for me.
I like both the 2nd and 3rd. The Arch one is coolest, but the 2nd may have slightly more "shelf" space for flatter coral placement.
Seems like 3rd is becoming the most popular vote though.
I think I bought a skimmer (EV-120) from Rafal when I first got into the hobby. He seemed like a pretty nice guy to me, but the pump that came with it died about 3 months later. Not sure if he had anything to do with that or if it's just a coincidence. That's about the extent of my experience...
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with this man or his story.
I didn't read the article either. But after reading your letter I believe SI should offer you a job!
It's hard to see from the pic, but I think it looks sort of like something I've had growing in my sump for about a year now. Mine seems pretty harmless, but I've never seen it open either so not sure if it's beneficial at all. Maybe it opens at night or something?
If you stop over for that...
Yea, good article. I'm almost scared that I started using bio-pellets now. :nervous
I'm also a bit worried that I'm also using the Red Sea Coral Pro salt, which he said he had to switch out of due to high Alk (although my system never seems to have a high alk, in fact it's usually low even...
I'm not looking to start a war over the radions... I'm sure they're very nice LED's. But, to explain my previous post, here's a pic of the interior of one:

Here's a side view...
If the Radions didn't have the fan on the bottom (which I believe to be a serious design flaw for a couple obvious reasons) and if they weren't so expensive... I'd consider them.
