Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I'm sure you were kidding on that last post... but I wouldn't be suprised if some of your fish ate hot dogs. I used to use them as fishing bait when I was a kid and I caught quite a few on hot dogs! :o
Sorry to hear the bad news. These kind of incidents keep reminding me that I need to get a generator. :(
It's hard to say how long you'd need to cook the rock... depends on how much died and how long it's been dead to know whether you need to "kill" it all completely and start over, or if you...
Unfortunately, my tank is nowhere near a window so the cheap/smart method isn't possible for me.
Also, the item you linked is discontinued. The new item(s) they suggest are a basic media reactor and This stuff
I was thinking about trying this stuff in my dual reactor (can easily move my...
Sounds like things didn't turn out quite as expected, but you are handling the suprises very well. It might be for the better though. When you're forced to redo things, you tend to make them better then they were before.
Keep up the good work!
Sucks about losing the next batch of QT residents. You're probably right though, the other guy is probably more upset than you.
Sounds like your tank is adjusted to the new fish so you can move the Singapore over. Heavy feeding might be a good idea for a few days just to help keep it away...
Jim, if these aren't already spoken for, I'd like to buy one w / Dolly. I can stop by on my way home from work tomorrow... around 5:30ish.
PM me your address if this works for you.
Thanks.
What are the dimensions of the tank? It might be cheaper to grab one of the cheap LEDs. It would save on the schools electric bill too.
As far as fish, if you have a good pod population you might want to consider a mandarin or a copperband butterfly.
Good luck with it!
Tony, there are still some people using under gravel filters around here and swear by them. I wasn't knocking you on trying to use this method... was just letting you know it was an old thread in case you didn't notice that.
I think Sid is right though. Bio-pellets, skimmers, and macro algae...
I was originally going to suggest scrapping the sand for new sand also. You sounded intent on using it though, so thought it would be good to suggest using gloves when rinsing it (for your protection). New sand is a much better idea as cleaning sand can be a huge pain.
Not sure if you noticed, but the last post in this thread before yours was over 2 years ago. I'm not even sure anyone is still using this method anymore, but I could be wrong.
Thanks guys. It was much more fun this time around than in the past. I may have some pics of previous years pumkins. If I find them, I'll post those up as well.
Paul, with the outside temps dropping lately, it's also possible that your heating system in the house came on... which may have added slightly to the tank temp.
Glad to hear the sealing job worked though!
Sounds like you got your work cut out for you Matt. You seem to have a pretty good plan though and with your experience I'm sure it will recover.
While reading your post, I was thinking that the wet lights incident might have been the problem too. But, you never know so it's best to be cautious...
I like the look of the rock work too. I only have one concern with it...
It doesn't look like there are a lot of hiding places for your fish. I don't know what kind or how many fish you plan to hold in there, but it looks like all they will have is a few places on the left rock pile, and maybe...
Sam, please re-visit the "Introduce yourself" thread you posted in before. There are a few people who replied with questions (in order to help you out) and one in particular you should take note of is the one by Paul (redfishbluefish).
As far as water quality is concerned, you should test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. There may be a small spike in any/all of them, depending on when you do the tests. Once they're all back to zero, your tank will have been adjusted to the new fish.
The skimmer may have started producing...
