Just another 2¢ from me...
If your Skimmer pump is within a couple feet lower than your Skimmer intake, I don't think a "pressure rated" pump would make a difference here. Since there is no major head pressure to overcome, a normal pump should not lose any pressure anyway.
Yes Mikem, some people use an aqua lifter or similar pump to prime the HOB overflow... and we could probably do that with this box too. My bro-in-law had a tube with a valve on it though, dunno why.
James, I took some measurements on mine and couldn't find anything similar on the web as far as...
Tell ya what James... I'll look through my box this weekend and see what I can come up with for you.
For reference, the tank in that pic was a 135G AGA. It's 6' long. The previous owner (my bro-in-law) used that HOB for that tank, but he said it probably needed another. I think it would be more...
I can't comment on the quality of that thing, but IMO it's overpriced.
When I bought my system (granted it was used, but only 4 months old) I paid $500 for:
- 75g reef ready oceanic tank
- 32" high stand (great for having "headroom" above my sump/equipment inside the stand) and had an 8-button...
Well, my first thought to adding a sponge or filter sock or something on the intake was...
Isn't the job of a skimmer to remove debris from your tank? If you stop the debris from entering the skimmer, then it won't get them out. Of course you might remove some of them when you change/clean the...
James... before you buy anything, let me offer you some more stuff (for free!)
I have a HOB overflow box that you can have for free. It has a small hole in the top of the U section that prevents it from working. But, all you need to make it work is a small piece of air tubing and a valve. I may...
Seems like a lot of people are trying to come up with DIY LEDs. I see a lot of them "look" bright, but what's the minimum specs recommended for good coral growth? Par 38? Is there anything better in an LED?
The reason I ask is because I researched the Par 38's and most of them are rated at like...
Wow, looks like lots of people read my post, but nobody replied. :'(
I did receive a reply back from JBJ and it doesn't look good:
Anyway, I'm hoping someone around here that has any knowledge of electrical components can find a way to disable or bypass that timer issue. Can I just rip that...
Can you post a close up pic of the sock holder and how it attaches to the sump? Maybe some dimensions of the holder too? I saw it when I was at your house, but I didn't get a good look at it.
Maybe we can patch it up or something? I have a huge piece of 1/4" thick acrylic that we can use and...
Daniel, are you sure the tank is actually leaking? It could just be water bubbling out of the filter sock and splashing out. That happened to me when mine was too dirty, and wasn't letting water get through fast enough.
If you know it's leaking, fill it with water and let it sit, then try to...
*** Note, I posted this under someone else's thread on a similar topic, but am adding it as a new thread to keep it separate.*** Scroll down to the blue text if you want to skip the details.
Well, I bought a JBJ ATO and attempted to set it up to prevent my skimmate collection container from...
This would be the best idea IMO, but you can also just use egg crate for the shelf. The holes in it make it easy to tie-strap right to holes drilled into the pvc pipe.
I would use at least 3 legs, but 4 would be better, especially if you are going to hold heavy stuff like a fuge.
Nickjr had a...
Well, I bought the JBJ ATO and attempted to set this up to accomplish the goal of preventing the skimmate collection container from overflowing.
I set one sensor in my container (the clear acrylic box standing next to my sump in the pic above), and set it as a "high-level" sensor. When water...
Phil, I was referring to a second chance to see the speakers and presentations at this event, not just the frag swap portion, when I posted that originally. I know this is no way on scale with MACNA, but it seems like they are trying to have a similar theme (speakers, frag swap, raffles?) and...
Yea, I've been meaning to upgrade my Current bulbs and was already considering a Fiji purple. Thanks for the suggestions.
Wow, you pulled them right out, huh. That's surprising considering how they were covered.
I'd like to know how you got those maxijets out of that tank! :o They were buried in Zoos, even the electric cord was covered. LOL
I've seen Dan's tank in person and everything looked really healthy. If I had more room in my tank, I would have taken a bigger rock of Zoo's Dan.
By the way, the...
