Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Ahh, media in bags explains what you are doing then. The pic you posted on 12/29/09 (FTS) looks like you have one big center overflow box, so I was a bit confused on what you meant.
You use tap water and no skimmer, no sump? Wow, you are the anti-reefer! LOL.
Well, as long as everything is...
Just found your thread for the first time, and I have to say it is truly a fantastic tank! Your corals and fish are all beautiful. Makes me want to grab a mask and snorkel and dive in! :o
Are you getting algae growing anywhere else besides on your frag rack?
Now, I'm sort of a newb in this...
Dave, can't believe I haven't seen your tank tale thread before. It looks great. That Rhodactis sure is an interesting looking creature! You have a few corals that I haven't seen before actually, which is always exciting.
I did have a question though. In the beginning of your thread, you said...
OK, that sounds good. 3-4" is plenty. I was worried that you just feathered it in to level it out... which never really works without special polymer/epoxy mixes.
Yea, sorry I didn't notice this thread before you actually did the work. I've done some concrete work before and would have been...
Wow, that's some work you guys put in. I do have one question though... the patchwork that was done around the steps and stuff, how deep/thick was the concrete in this area? If it's only an inch or less, it will likely crack and/or pop out if you used regular quikrete.
As far as helping to keep...
I picked the JBJ up last night. I got both units now from Tom, so mods can close this thread if they wish since tgee has nothing else for sale in here.
Thanks again Tom!
See, the internet is full of differing opinions, lol. The tips given to me did not suggest that they "can't" get ich, only that they are better prepared to avoid it than most fish.
Thanks Ryan. I will check out Melev's site and do more research on mandarin's and ich before I decide to buy...
I agree! It's looking pretty good considering what you went through. Kudos for your persistence and hard work. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to shed the dead parts off the stuff that is coming back.
With less than a year experience in keeping a fish/reef tank, I'm no where near an expert. However, like Rbu1, I have lost at least one fish due to my QT methods. Actually, it wasn't due to my method, but due to my assumption that all fish needed to be in QT for a month.
The one I lost was a...
Can you take a pic of it now that it's in the QT tank? I'm certainly no expert on treating fish, but having a visual reference might help someone with more experience.
Hope it gets better soon though.
It sounds solid to me. I sort of disagree with Bruce about the heater. Salinity will vary slightly based on temperature of the water. Therefore, you want to mix it as close to your tanks normal temp as possible so that when you check it you will get an accurate reading. It may not make that much...
Great topic! I was also trying to come up with a solution for the same issue.
Before I start posting pics and an explanation of my plan, I'll post a link to something that someone suggested to me: http://www.myreefcreations.com/Waste-Collectors
That thing won't turn off your skimmer pump, but...
I see Phil, so I would have to put it somewhere in the sump then because I'd have no other place it would fit.
I see what you mean about knocking the acrylic one over, but it's fairly heavy and it would take quite a bump to knock it over. I've actually bumped into it with my leg while setting...
That's an option I might consider Phil, thanks for the link. Would that just replace the existing collector cup on my EV-120, or would the drain tube just feed into this like I have it going to my acrylic container?
If it is just a replacement for my homemade container, then I'd have to find a...
Hey Tom, do you still have that JBJ ATO for sale? I wish I grabbed it while I was there for the Tunze because I could have used the JBJ as a fail safe for my skimmer.
I figured I could use the high level shutoff feature and set it in my skimmate collector container which is outside my sump. If...
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
Hey JR, did my long overdue update inspire you to update yours? LOL.
Sorry to hear about the pair of gobies, I know how you feel there brother.
Overall, your tank looks great, but I think you need a few more Hammers. ;D Just kidding, they look...
Thanks James. Glad you liked it.
By the way, I almost forgot to add the pic of my skimmate collector container. Sorry, it's a lil blurry too (cell phone camera) but here it is:
That is completely hidden when I close the cabinet door, and it holds about 4 gallons so it could last a while...
Thanks JR! I just wish I had a better camera because it looks a lil better in real life.
I need to get my fiance's brother over to take some shots, he has an awesome camera that he uses to take closeups of insects and stuff. He can make a lady bug look like it's 6" wide, and the image quality...
