Update continued... Part 2
EQUIPMENT
Yes, I've updated my system and got some new equipment since my last post. Aside from the new QT which was virtually Mynds old nano, I also added some other things.
I used to have a 5g home depot bucket that collected the skimmate from my collector cup...
Well, this is loooooong overdue, but here's an update on my tank... Part 1
I'll start off with some bad news before ending on a good note with some new equipment and all my new corals since last post.
FISH
Well, sadly "Herman" didn't make it much longer than my last update on him. When I moved...
Hey, thanks for the great ideas Phil. I never thought to pump the water up to my display or into the overflow instead of the sump. That might cause a slight delay between pump shut down and when its actually at the right level. But, that would keep the end well above the container and eliminate...
Taz, I think it's funny that our tanks get better water than we do too, haha.
I did read malulu's post, and at the end he mentioned wishing there was a place nearby that recharged kata ani. If he taught Richie, than I guess that wouldn't help him. I just knew from reading Richie's build thread...
Well, from my limited experience and tons of research, drilling and rodding, coupled with some epoxy (Aqua Mend works great, even under water) is the way to go.
The driveway markers are a good / cheap option and easily obtained as you have found. They are a bit more flexible than thicker...
Yes, Home Depot and Lowes both sell 1/4" thick acrylic. Not very large sizes though, I think the biggest is 24" x 48", but I could be wrong.
What are you using the acrylic for? Do you need sheets, rods, cylinders? Give a bit more details and I can suggest some online places that carry what you...
Dave - I could probably get a longer piece of tubing and just run it out of my garage, or right into my bathroom in the house (right across from the garage entrance door). That is a good idea that I will consider, thanks.
I do use some of the "wastewater". I usually fill up a few small water...
Jcurry - If I had a basement, I would do a lot more than fix the ATO container issue. Sadly, I live on a slab floor and my tank is along a half-wall between the dining room and living room... so I'm kind of limited to inside the stand for whatever I do for my tank.
Hawkeye - Thanks, and I...
A little demonstration of setting the pulse feature. It almost looks like the tank is going to rock off the stand! :

There are some other interesting Vortech demonstration vids on the right side too, check them all out!
While I agree that no directional flow option is...
Technically, you can hookup a generic battery backup system (UPS) to any pump. You just need to have it setup and plug all your equipment into it.
However, the Vortech is a self-contained battery/charger unit that is only 9" x 7" x 3.25".
The Tunze version looks to be a small device (the...
Yea, it is tight, and is stressing me out, lol. It should be plenty of space though. I used a tank volume calculator and if I was able to get a 7.5"W x 12"L x 20"H container, that would be 8 gallons, and I could get 10 gallons if it were 16"L (but that might be too long to squeeze through and...
Not looking to start (or feed) a war either, but just thought I would add a couple points to the wonderful breakdown Nick did on the Vortechs.
Not sure exactly what the difference is between Lagoon Mode and Reef Crest Mode, but they are both options where you set a max speed and the controller...
Thanks Tom. Can't wait to get a container for water so I can hook this up.
Very nice tank by the way. Loved the way you had everything setup as far as equipment goes. I dream of moving into a house with a basement so I can do all things you've done down there! You had a great selection of...
What I meant about mounting the lights was, how will you line up the fixtures? Each one has 8 openings, with 3 LEDs in each. That makes each one look like this:
| :o :o :o :o |
| :o :o :o :o |
So, assuming I'm looking at your tank from the front... when you mount the fixtures side by side...
Hi all. I'm finally getting an Auto Top Off because adding water every day is getting old. I'm picking up a Tunze Osmolator package tonight. That takes care of all the float switches, controls, and the pump. Now all I need is to find an adequate container to hold my water.
Here is a pic of my...
I'm using an MP20 vortech on my 75g (4' long) and I think it's plenty for what I have in my tank.
If I had anything more powerful, I'd probably rip my corals off the rocks. :o At least the ones right in front of the vortech.
An MP40 would probably be perfect for a 90 though since it's deeper...
Dan,
I have some pink creeping xenia that I'm looking to crop back and trade or give away. If your interested in that I can post a pic later on tonight.
I live in Blackwood and work in Lumberton, so not too far away from you. Let me know if interested.
