Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I’d be very curious to see the reference articles that incriminated phosphates as a potential leachate out of plastic. If you know of a link, please let me know.
Now, I speak with great ignorance, but I would put phosphate at the bottom of my list of things that could leach out of hard...
My diving buddy back in the late 60’s, early 70’s, caught the record lobster off New Jersey on the shipwreck Mohawk, in about 110 feet of water. I can’t remember the weight…I want to say something like 25 pounds, but I really can’t remember. That sucker was big and long. The biggest problem we...
Three ways:
Make a curved piece of wood by making a template and gluing thin strips to match the bend:
Make a template of the bend you want on a scrap piece of plywood. I’d just trace the curve of the tank on the plywood. Now fasten small blocks of wood every couple of inches. Using thin strips...
Cyanobacteria, aka red slime, aka blue-green algae is in fact a bacteria...albeit one that gets it energy by photosysthesis. I have a whole bunch if anybody wants some. ;D
I’ve been told to wear gloves and safety glasses when playing with zoas outside the tank. You don’t want to get that toxin in your eyes. I’ve heard about shooting toxin, but have never seen it first hand.
WHY? Do you have something against Mexicans? I can attest that those that are here are legal! ;D ;D
Actually there are Florida Turbo (actually an Astrea), Tiger Turbo and Zebra Striped Turbo…that I’m aware of…maybe more. I have a Mexican, (call him Big Boy because he is BIG), and yes, mine...
Not sure what Steve you are talking about, but if you run up in the Sayreville area, I have one 5 gallon jug and a 55 gallon barrel. You're more than welcome.

Or, you might be talking about the rod shaped, black gray piece sticking out of the rock. If that’s the case, it’s a plastic rod…first drill the rock and insert the rod. In merv’s case, he is using plastic coat-hangers that have been cut up…inexpensive.
Jenn, why not have gravity take the water down to your sump. Throw an overflow box on the tank and plumb it to you sump and now use a return pump to bring it back up. Heres a pic of one type of overflow boxes:
The canister filter is just a nitrate factory on saltwater tanks…get rid of it...
Well the beer belly has gotten too big...
The speedo has gotten too tight...
But wait...I’m an old man...that all works...I’ll be there.
But wait...
Unfortunately senility hasn’t set in yet, so I won’t be able to make it for a few more years.
Reminds me of a true story about Dr. Schleyer, a world renowned Organic Chemist at Princeton during the 70’s, who spent months…years, attempting to synthesis a new compound (very complex). In the end, he analyzed the new compound to verify the structure and it wasn’t what it was supposed to be...
Stcreef, I’m not very bright…so help me out here…you say to measure current potential. Isn’t that what I measured when I reported the voltage. Isn’t the measurement of voltage the potential of current. It doesn’t become current until the circuit is complete…i.e. potential.
The actual way I...
I started searching stray voltage and now I’m even more confused. (That’s not very hard to do). I like what one page had; “WARNING: THE FOLLOWING DISCUSSION IS NOT FOR LIBERAL ARTS MAJORS. CLICK THE "BACK" BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER NOW TO EXIT”...
With some of the chatter on stray voltage and tingling hands, I throw my VOM (volt ohm meter) into the tank this morning and found 4.5 volts. I know I should probably make like an ostrich, and stop looking for problems.
Anyway, is this something that I should be concerned about? Later today...
