Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Good to hear you have quarantine set up.
Can you list some info to help?
what size tank?
what is the water parameters - ammonia, nitrate, ph, alkalinity (maybe you could bring a sample to the LFS to test?)
The slamming of a fish's body against coral, substrate or glass does sound like an...
Is this approach going against what your avatar tell us? ;)
Strictly from a technical point of view you will be decreasing the total volume of the tank. Some would consider that a "downside".
Frankly - in my opinion I'd go with whatever fits your schedule/comfort level. As I recall you had a...
My black sand is just getting slammed with diatoms...rusty color. I can't wait for the invert group buy.
Your sand on the other hand looks great (beautiful when contrasted with that close up pic of your corals).
cyano indeed.
Everyone gets it in some shape or form. Mine comes in the refugium. Not having a skimmer could definitely be a reason why - but the other way to get the nutrients out is to do more regular water changes. It's a pain I know (i don't have a skimmer). The only other solution is to...
people complain that all the nice tanks are in central/south jersey. Well I can for once complain that a NICE big tank is being set up in NORTH jersey.
Also - please do not post a sale price on your 180 here. Forum rules.
That 180 in the middle - is that one huge orange cap? Looks fantastic.
Scallops should be treated similar to feather dusters and other filter-feeding organisms. Most books will tell you that scallops require a LOT of feeding and that most will not survive 6 months in a tank. (Anyone have one longer?)
They survive the 6 months by living off their reserves. Unlike...
maybe you have cyano bacteria? Google that and check. It's usually a reflection of the tank (spots where it grows at least) having lower flow. Also are you feeding heavily?
I agree with mark on Ocean Gallery II. Minor quip - I wish they'd stop selling rabbits/guinea pigs though. There are so many of those in shelters waiting for adoption.
I think Wil over at Aquatic Obsessions should also be mentioned for kudos. Yes AqOb needs to make a profit (doesn't everyone?)...
astraes do a great job on diatoms in my opinion. Course I also have a mexican turbo and chestnut turbo i got from AqOb - and i have to say that big snail pulls it's weight. However it will undoubtedly knock frags over so keep that in mind.
Re: Here's my 120
just looking at all that is so intimidating. But knowing what you did with the 120 - all of this must be a piece of cake for you! You'll either have to re-name this thread or start a new one. Either way I'm tagging along!
Congratulations!
We went the drug route for both the kids...pitocin and epidural. One more day and your third would be sharing birthdays with my second. ;)
I don't know how you did it with two others (bringing them that is). Our friends across the street were expecting their third (now since...
it is a lot depending on where you position your corals. Softies will not like that kind of flow at them. I have a tunze 6060 in my old 55 and I could not place any softies in the middle of the tank as the flow was just too much.
Judicious aquascaping and placement of flow-needy corals worked...
Calaxa -
thanks for the pics. It's disturbing how quickly the disease spread. Big kudos to you for taking the time to do this. I know if I did it I'd probably mix up my equipment and contaminate my own tank somehow.
