    Metal halide help

No problem. Glad I could help at least a little. Depends on the fixture, as far as taking them apart. You would also want to pay special attention to the ballasts and wiring. If the fixture is designed to keep the wiring and ballasts far from condensation, putting those components into an open...

    Metal halide help

On a 55 gallon, 4 bulbs would suffice in my opinion. 6 would be better, but not necessarily needed. The only thing I didn't get that metal halide gives is that "shimmer" everyone talks about, and of course the added heat. :) I kept the clam successfully. I kept moving him up onto a rock ledge...

    Another halide setup

The only real answer I got on this a few months ago when asking the same question was just the color choices on the HQI versus the single mogul bulbs. No real answer other than opinions on the reflectors, though.

    Metal halide help

Hey Salt, just keep in mind the electricity use and heat generation also. That ballast isn't an electronic ballast, so the electricity useage will be much higher on it. I kept a 55 gallon before upgrading to the 90 and did REALLY well with T5 HO lighting. I kept acros in all depths of the tank...

    Best Magnetic Algae Cleaner?

Hey Candi: I have had pretty good luck with the mag floats on my 90, and on my previous 55. They do tend to need replacing pretty quickly if you have rapid algae build up. Check out http://www.reefgadgets.com (produced by our very own RichT!) for the add-on scraper for the mag float. I think...

Let's play "What the HECK is that!"

I don't know if I can get him to come out far enough for that. He comes right to the edge of those rocks and sticks his claws out, catches the food, and shoves it under his belly. When he has a big enough pile, he starts eating from under the rocks. I really started feeding him last night...

Let's play "What the HECK is that!"

I think I might be a little slow on the uptake today. I don't get the soda bottle thing. Do you cut the top off and flip it and shove it back into the bottle?

Let's play "What the HECK is that!"

Yeah, no kidding. His eyes are alot redder than that picture does justice. And he's hungry because there are no fish or shrimp left that he can catch, so he came out with a quickness when I shot the shrimp and squid in near his hole. Can anybody recomend a trap that might work for him? I can't...

Let's play "What the HECK is that!"

His body is at least the size of a silver dollar, not counting the legs and claws. He's HUGE. I got him to come out last night with mysis shrimp and squid chunks from my frozen foods. I'm going to try feeding him like that a couple of days and see if I can get him used to it. He came out...

    I'M BAAAAAACK!

I was leaning towards gorilla crab, but can one of those actually take out and completely desimate that many large fish? My clown tang was about 3" long.

    I'M BAAAAAACK!

You and me both! I think the only thing saving the clowns is that they "sleep" at the top of the tank, and whatever it is is digging around under and between the rockwork. The thing is, I can't really take the rockwork out without disassmbling all 120 pounds of it. My wife says she saw...

    I'M BAAAAAACK!

Thanks guys and gals. I've waited this long for the hydors, I can wait a little longer. Go ahead and move them south to Rich's. I'm trying to rearrange some scheduling to actually make that meeting. All depends on work schedule. I will keep ya'll informed, but either way, Rich's is nearly on my...

    I'M BAAAAAACK!

Sorry guys and gals, I have been gone for quite some time. Long story. Suffice it to say that medical issues coupled with immediate family and extended family issues as well as some financial issues plus work had me pretty darn tied up. I'm hoping to start getting back in a bit. I still have...

Need to run an CFGI outlet, need help.

Definitely run the new drop. If you have an existing outlet there already, you can pull that outlet and box and use the existing hole to fish the new drop through. Then just run the new drop behing, over, under whatever the existing outlet box to the new outlet box and place it right beside the...
