Its Spectrapure's Silica Buster cart. Seems to be doing the job. But I have to see how long it actually lasts. Been in service for about a month now with no problem. I do find that after a heavy rain, my silica level in my well water goes thru the roof for about a week.
Ha.....what it really boils down to for our purposes is how much your willing to spend. When you look at the higher end carbons, the cost to benefit factor starts getting really gray.
One other thing I noticed in the pic. You commented that the waste water is fast compared to the RO. That maybe because the flush valve is in the on position. Close the valve for normal operation. You will see the waste water slow at that point. Only open it to flush the membrane.
If it says taste on it, you want to remove it. Its is a carbon filter that will put some minerals back in the water to "improve" the taste of pure RO/DI water (since there will be ~0 ions in it). The only time you want to use it is if you are using your RO/DI for human consumption. But for our...
Here is a great thread over at the "other" forum site concerning carbon. Its a few years old but still applies. Prices are still pretty much the same. Be sure to look at the chart about 2/3 the way down the thread...
Only question I have is what is he white filter the blue line is coming from. The brown filter with blue endcaps is the DI cartridge. If the white one is a carbon block, you want to remove that. You only want that for drinking purposes. If its a second DI cartridge, then its fine.
If they put the check valves on either side, it will prevent back siphon, will also allow pump to not work as hard since the aqualifters work on a pulse. I had to do this for my kalk setup. Took me a while to figure out why I couldnt get enough suction til I took the pump apart and realized its...
No dont submerge it. I have always left mine about 2 inches above the water level and let it drip into a high flow area. The amount of time its in the air is in significant at that point.
Concerning the drawing:
You dont need the solenoid valve if the kalk reactor is higher than the ro/di resevoir water level, you have airline check valves before and after the aqualifter pumps, and the discharge line of kalk reactor is not submerged in the sump water.
I just hate solenoid...
mmmmm cat dandruff......I have 4 in muffin fans on my canopy. I just bought the filters at McMaster Carr to fit the fans. Plus some extra filters. You can just rinse them in water.
The chlorine from the bleach wont gas off just during a dryer cycle. It will take a few days/week. So why not just hang it up and let it air dry and gas off the chlorine.
yeah....looks like it.....I am going to take some samples of RO/DI water and tank water over to my buddies at Rohm&Haas to test just to make sure I'm not still getting silicas. The hobby test kits I'm not too comfortable with the results. Even after adding the Silicabuster DI carts, my test kits...
They do make usb cameras that can be fitted to standard microscopes......you can look at Edmund Scientific. But they get rather expensive just for the occasional use.
ok this is going to sound silly ....
I took a small piece of rock and placed it in an area where I get the heaviest of this bloom. Waited a few days for it to get a dusting on it. I then drove down to the local Toys-R-Us and bought a cheap 1200x microscope (thanks to my 10 year old for the...
The click is the end play on the shaft. There was a thread about this on RC. They slid a piece of airline tubing over the shaft cut to length to prevent the end play. After that the click was gone.
panmanmatt, I understand what you are saying but with that logic I am not quite understanding what would be the export method, other than the skimming. But that wouldn't take care of what is laying on the sand. So in that instance there would always be a high level of silicates bound up on the...
Lights out....I'll get a pic tomorrow and post. See...I knew there was something I was forgetting. Its been a long two months and frustration has set in.
Was wondering if anyone knows any biologists or someone down at the aquarium that may take a look at a sample for me. I may just call down...
