You mean the filters or just the plastic housing?
If it's the housing, I'd make a post in the buy/sell forum and see if anyone has some laying around.
If you mean the filters, I have no idea where you could get those locally. If that's the case, I'd just buy them from Spectrapure, BRS, etc...
Gonna re-paint my stand this weekend. I read a lot about oil based paint vs latex vs epoxy and I think I'm gonna go epoxy since I kept seeing people complain about the latex peeling.
I was thinking kilz primer then appliance epoxy. Anything I should know? Does it make a difference if I go...
This is just to thin the epoxy/resin, which helps the bubble travel upward faster? Would a propane torch work? Or is that overkill?
I gotta think if hand sanitizer is ok for indefinite preservation, that regular rubbing alcohol would be ok. Probably gonna try all three methods of bubble...
Was thinking that as well. I'd probably just try regular rubbing alcohol though. Not sure if the other stuff in hand sanitizer would affect the casting process.
Thanks for the links. Probably gonna try something out this weekend. I'll likely try out the casting resin, but I want to make sure it's a bubble free piece. Wonder if I could stick it on the washing machine for a bit before I cap it and it starts to cure? Just read dipping into resin before...
I was thinking epoxy resin might work. Do you think it would help if I painted it with acrylic nail polish first? My concern is how fragile the upper arm part is as the shell is WAY thinner there than it is nearer to the tip. I wanna figure it out so next molt I can be ready to get it before the...
A bit OT, but how has your dehumidifier been working for you? I really need one and this model and a similar Kenmore were the one's I was looking at. Both were around $200-250 price range. I got a $200 Sears gift card I need to spend before that company implodes.
My Peacock Mantis Shrimp molted last week Sunday night/Monday morning. Was pretty sure I had seen the defined line of calcium resorption and the sutures splitting on his "back" Sunday night and sure enough, I saw him appear after a couple days with what looked like much less damaged hammers...
I don't own one of these controllers, I have a RKL, but I've yet to use it. My point is that if you set it to -1 hr for the fall back and you set a +1 hr for spring forward, why would you ever have to change the code?
You can use a spring wound timer, like for turning on a light/fan for X mins. Just have to find one that you can switch to normally closed(as in the circuit) rather than normally open. Then you crank the timer and it pops back on once the timer runs down.
Just a warning: Last time, the Petco's only had Tetra tanks. I bought a 40B and 20L. The 40B chipped pretty easily after a chair, which was missing a leg, fell into it.
I feel like part of the reason it chipped so easily was the fact that the panels were not lined up all that well. Maybe it had...
You could try to cut a hole into the side panel of the stand, so long as that wouldn't require you to cut into anything structurally important.
If you can't cut the side panel and slip the sump out like that, I'd just get a new tank for a sump. Way easier to do that then to break down the tank.
I don't have a Tang, but my Peacock Mantis does the world's strangest routine when he poops....sometimes. He'll literally come out of his burrow stick his tail almost straight up in the air, then he literally shoots the poo out and then disappears into his burrow. It's bizarre. I've seen him do...
You guys should have seen my attempt to get it in the first tank, lol. Netting it from the bucket to the tank after acclimation was a complete failure as he went ballistic, flapping around. Gave up on that after about 5 seconds since it was clear he'd never make it to the tank like that and I...
What he said^^.
What do you guys think is the best way to start a cycle with dead rock is though? Live rock or bottled bacteria? And if you use live rock, would rock cultured in the ocean like the stuff you can get from various online vendors be preferable to something from the LFS or another...
Seems like you guys all did exactly what everyone does after seeing my tank: Spend all their time at work the next day watching mantis vids on youtube, LOL.
I absolutely love the thing, it's soooo cool. I could stare at the tank for days on end if the light wasn't only on for about 5 hrs a day...
Haha, yeah. It's truly amazing how fast and strong they are. If you blink just as it's about to move, it's like the thing can teleport, lol. I just wish I knew what it was thinking when I'm not paying attention and I turn around to see it about 2" from the edge of the glass, just staring at me...
