Generator Failure Wipes Out Herbie's Fish Stock

Herbie... nooooooooo! I can't believe you lost all those beautiful fish. I can't even imagine how you must feel right now, but I'm glad you still seem to be in good spirits all things considered. As others have already said, you know a lot of us are here for you and you have tons of help...

How's everyone making out (roll call)

I went in to work today. Rt. 42N to Rte 295N to Rte. 38 E was all clear. Some traffic lights out on Rte. 38 between Hartford Rd. and the Mt. Holly Bypass, but they had the crossover's coned off so it didn't affect traffic on Rte. 38 unless you had to get to the other side. Power is on and...

Storm projects. What are you working on?

Looks good Dan. I've been browsing DIY tank stands for about the last 3-4 hours. Trying to come up with a good design for my new 120 I picked up from Brandon (DS4x4) on Sunday. It's a single/corner overflow and the tanks going beside a half-wall that divides two rooms, so I need the Peninsula...

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Knock on wood, all is still good here in Blackwood. Been raining all day and winds are getting pretty crazy... but not damage that I'm aware of and power is still on. Hope it doesn't get any worse.

That's interesting John. I guess you never know until you try something, right? I'll be carving one myself this weekend. I'll give it a try too and report if they like it.

    Attention generator owners!!

One of those.... " I know I'll need this for something one day " items huh? Very sound advise though. Better to be safe than sorry.

Can you use distilled water in a reef tank?

You can use distilled water, but over time, it's cheaper to use RO/DI water. Distilled water is purified by evaporation, turning it to steam, and then collecting the water as it condenses. This process basically strips all the minerals out of the water because they are heavier than the steam...

    Storm is Coming...

An alternative would be to find a battery backup. You might be able to find them at Staples or Office Max, etc. Definitely not as good as a generator, but could give you an extra day of power. Also, if you have a Vortech pump(s), they make batter backups for just those. They can last up to...

    8pixel's 39G Rimless

Yea, awesome lil tank. Love how you organized that side cabinet too! Does it get hot in the top section with all the controller equipment? Might not be a bad idea to install a small computer fan to ventilate it.
