Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Yea really! Haha. Congrats on both the new tank and new house Brian. I'm about to upgrade my 75 to a 120 soon and I'll need to build a new stand and canopy for it, so we'll have to share ideas at the Swap. ;)
Haha, yea, like I said you need an understanding wife. I just told my wife that the fish "NEED" to eat blackworms to keep healthy and if I didn't keep them in the fridge they would stink rot and stink up the house. I started with a small sampler cup to prove to her that it wasn't a big deal...
Nope. I buy 1/4 lb from Aquarium Center about once per week and just keep them in a plastic container in my fridge (requires an understanding wife or girlfriend, lol).
Rinsing them in clean, cold RO water daily is the key to keeping them clean and alive.
Yea, they do grow them out on thin flat surfaces because it's much easier to frag, that's for sure.
I've fragged that thing only once and that was because with Acans you need to cut from underneath or you destroy all the tissue. I only have a dremel, which is really hard to cut through the...
They will encrust over rocks. If it's a flat surface, they will grow flat, if it's a mounded rock, they will cover it in the shape of the rock.
Here's a good example of one of mine that I have on my rock work in the middle of my tank.
As you can see, it grew around the rock it was mounted...
Ugh, I wish I would have known sooner. I probably could have stopped by around 11:00. I'm already back at my office down in Lumberton.
Ah well. If you happen to decide to go to the Swap, please PM me and let me know. I'd be happy to take this off your hands and hook you up with a frag or two.
You can shop online at a place like reefcleaners.org and get a pre-made "clean up crew" kit but IMO, you might be better just running over to your LFS and picking up a half dozen each of large turbo snails, blue leg hermits, scarlet hermits (different from red-leg hermits) and then mix in a few...
Any chance you will be home tomorrow around 10:30 - 11:00? I have to drive up to Woodbridge and could stop by around that time to pick it up.
If not, any chance you're going to the Frag Swap?
I don't "need" this, but I do have 2 nano tanks in the garage, 1 without a stand. Anyway, let me know...
Not aware of any for nitrates. For pH, you can always get a pH probe/Monitor like Pinpoint or Milwaukee brands... those will run you between $80 to $100 each, but they are "monitors" of pH and give you a constant reading on pH. You'll never have to take another water sample to get your pH...
Well there goes my theory then, lol. Thought it was worth a shot.
