Def have to drain the tank and reseal that corner. You can't just caulk it on the bottom it will never stay

Blow it off with a turk baster to get it in to your skimmer and out of the system. It will grow a lot slower with less of it in the tank to spread

You right... for a tunze product the pump isn't too bad of a price. Check valve is a good idea, 2 is even better idea
