Sam, can you post a pic of your "feather duster" ? There is something similar to a feather duster called colonial hydroids. These can be considered a pest because they multiply and spread quickly... and then choke out other corals. You don't really have much to lose right now as far as...
Heya Matt. I heard about the fire a while back and was very saddened by it. I live in Blackwood and have been to your store quite a few times. I bought a few fish from you guys over the past year or so and always liked your store. Your staff was always friendly and knowledgeable too.
I'm...
OK, now that I see what you have, I can get a better idea of the issues.
First off, yes, get the drain tube out of the sump. As others have said, either plug it or let it drain into another container. Otherwise, whatever you skim will just run back into the sump thru the drain tube. The object...
Add a sea cucumber and/or fighting conchs to your cleanup crew. They will help alot with debris in the sand bed.
If your bed is only 1/2" thick, I'd say you should stir it up once a week or so and let stuff work it's way out. You might want to just do 1/4 of it at a time so it's not a ton of...
Yea, and he even noted his sump was only 12" deep in his second post... which was my first hint that it might not be in deep enough water.
Brian, give the poor guy a chance to get home and post some pics, lol.
Dibs on the do-dads and wickydoos! J/K
Seriously though, sorry to see you leaving the hobby James. I'm sure you'll be back eventually. And yes, I can vouch for the skimmer. I had to fabricate a 5 gal. acrylic container to collect the skimmate that mine produces. Otherwise, I'd be emptying the...
I think it would be possible only if the skimmer section was a small area (L x W) and the pump pulled most of the water out quicker than it could be filled up by the flow thru sump. This could drop the water level down far enough for it to suck air pretty easily.
I'm thinking that might be his...
Sounds to me like you don't have enough water in the section the skimmer is in. From what you described, the pump is sucking the water level down and drawing in air... which means you need more water in that section.
Can you put more in, or is there a baffle that's keeping that section at that...
Can you post a pic of how you have it setup in the sump? That would answer at least a few questions I have in my head.
One question I can ask now though is where is it "sucking up air"? Can you give any more details on this?
This Link should help answer that question.
It's basically the fact that RO will strip the water of minerals that the betta needs.
As far as a tank goes, you won't need anything bigger than This
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but David... you could always attach a piece of pvc pipe to the corner of the sump, and have it terminate below water level and extend up higher than the sump rim. Then just let the outlet tube sit a few inches down into the pvc pipe. That will keep the kalk...
Paul, glad you enjoyed it! Another trick I learned when I went camping with some friends in Virginia... http://www.cherrystoneva.com/
We went out on one of their docks at night (they have 4 piers out onto the Chesapeake Bay), just as high tide was almost at it's peak. Shine flash lights into...
Nice job on the light hanging! If/when I ever get my LED's, I'm definitely stealing this design! ;)
The only thing that could possibly make it better is maybe something like this to dress up the wires running up the hanger. They come in a few different sizes (diameter) and are super easy to...
Paul, another great post that makes us think about why we're in this hobby. I'm sure everyone has their own story to share and here's mine.
I grew up in the Pine Barrens in South Jersey. My neighborhood was called Collings Lakes, and we were surrounded by like 5 different lakes. Needless to...
Sad news Greg. Glad you were able to salvage some stuff though.
Do you remember who you may have given some frags of things you lost? Maybe you could get some back?
