Gotcha. I don't think it matters much but sand probably isn't the best thing to be running through your pump/skimmer so I suggested the sock. I was mostly just wondering if my observation was correct. ;)
Looking good! Bet you can't wait to get the lights and play around with em...even though you don't have anything that needs them yet.
Is that a sandy grit that's in the skimmer cup? If so, that should clear up when the display settles. Might help if you have a filter sock on the drain to...
I've never heard of a mag leaking, but then again I haven't researched feedback on those who have either. I guess it's something to worry about, but they are designed to be internal or external... so it will work at least temporarily.
You could even do it without drilling any holes for...
Yea, and since my Salifert kits are about used up and I've been using Red Sea Coral Pro salt... I might pick these up for my next set.
I was going to get the Hanna CA checker, but not sure that's accurate with everything I hear about them. Shame because I love the alk and phos checkers. :frown:
The two kits were different in all comparisons, but consistently different. With the Red Sea kit, the Ca readings were all 10 lower, Mg were all 10 higher, and alk were almost all .2 lower (.3 on the week 2 test.) Now the question is... which is correct (or more correct than the other)?
You...
Why don't you just run the Mag 18 externally? Just hook a suction hose up to it and run it into the sump. As long as the suction hose is full when it starts, you won't have any issues with running dry. Even if it's dry, if you have a short hose (ie run it through a bulkhead near the bottom of...
Yea, looks like alien eye chalice, although the green is usually more fluorescent... could be it though.
The zoas looks sorta like Tear Jerkers . But there are so many that look alike it might not be that. Did you get them from zoanthids.com's booth at the swap?
If you keep moving the nem and it keeps going back there... your next best option is to just move the sand away from him whenever it starts piling up. Just scoop some out of there and put it in the back right corner of your tank (where it looks a lil low).
Looking good! Can you get a top down shot of the plumbing on the right side so we can see what's going on there?
Kinda late now, but the bulkhead to drain the skimmer section might have been better if it was on the bottom glass panel (unless its tempered)... so you can completely drain the...
That's a good point Steamman. Adding the skimmer right away may actually lengthen the cycle process because it removes some things that "feed" the cycle.
That method of using ammonia to cycle the tank seems pretty solid to me.
Also, you shouldn't add any ammonia removing agents either because...
I guess when you take 45 minutes to type up a post, someone smart comes along and beats you to the buzzer. I feel pretty good knowing that I think a lot like him though. :semi-twins:
All great questions and suggestions so far... and I agree the tank and rock both look great.
Here's my input (sorry if it seems like a lot, I like to give details):
1. Cycling time can vary depending on size of the tank and amount of bacteria present to start the "cycle" process. Typically, it...
